Hey Jack, I haven't been on Fictionaut in a while (sorry), and can't recall whether I thanked you for your comment on my piece about an owl. Best to you!
Hi, Jack. Thanks for reading, 'Lule of Raw-3.' I greatly appreciate your comment and *. And I'll be greatly surprised if Santa does show up in your chimney. Yet I'm playing it safe and not betting otherwise, either.
Jack, this is getting to be a pattern. I don't realize something I wrote was funny until I hear it from you. This little epiphany makes me feel great, as you've got an excellent sense of humor. Thanks for the fave.
Hi Jack: I've now gotten my exercise for the day by walking down your wall! Thanks for commenting on "For the Lost Boys." I appreciate you as a reader.
yes, jack, the "occupy" stories are certainly coming in now...lulu as print shop is a great idea, and i thank you for suggesting me but, you know...the teaching term, the little writing i get to do...the family...you know how it is. "occupy" has distracted me from the hiatus i had in mind (and that i'm still steering towards)....
Thank you for what you said on 'Creature in the coal' and the fave - really appreciate it. I've not got on here as much as I'd like to over the past few months [finding it hard to log in at times] - so I tend to be an invisible reader instead. Hope to get more regular access soon and catch up on things properly - including your recent stories. Take care, Gill
Jack! Thank you for taking the time to comment on "The Shoes, the Girl and the Waves that Washed Them Away." VERY much appreciate. Hope you're doing well. Chris
Thanks so much for commenting on Mercer's Pier. I'm glad you liked it. I've been away from Fictionaut for a quite a while and was surprised that anyone still read my stuff. I look forward to reading more of yours :)
Hi Jack. So appreciate your comments on Frail Flowers... And interested that your reaction to it spanned the spectrum. Makes me grateful all the more. Thanks for the second read.
Jack! There's always this wall between us! Thanks doubly for liking both For Captain Paul and Three More for Nailpolish. I am pleased to have you as a reader and I appreciate you. Now, take down this wall!
Hiya Jack! Thanks for the comments and fave(?)on "Submission guidelines". Trying to stir some controversy without (to quote Marcus Speh) spilling too much blood. Cheers.
so, fergus falls (makes me think of bedford falls) is where you tank up for your dreams...this place really could be anywhere, it's atmospheric and ... deadly. thank you, jack!
Thank you for reading and fave-ing 'Acceptance' - especially after it's been here a while. Much appreciated! It's one of my favourites of my wee writing babies, so I'm particularly glad you liked it.
Thanks again for the fave--but most of all thanks for your honesty...it totally resonates. I am back to the drawing board, trying to recapture some of that voice which worked so well, that voice I miss.
Hey, Jack. Thanks for rereading "Claudine" and for the comment. I'm having one of those "I can't write and I should just stop trying" days (weeks, actually) so your kind words come at the right time. Thank you! Tina
Hi jack. Thanks for digging up "Bride & Groom." I've written a few short vignettes like this from my time in Woodstock, but I haven't put them together in a logical order yet. Soon...
After a bit of stumbling with this novel, I finally feel on solid ground. Thanks for sticking with this story and inspiring me with such glowing commentary. Much appreciated.
Jack, thanks for commenting on 'Reasons', and for the excellent suggestions :) Imagining a Portrait of the Artist kinda thing: "It was another hundred-degree day, and he wheezed and dripped like a tired air conditioner..." :) All best!
Yay! Let's see what those sisters do next. Emery board torture? Nail polisher remover solvents knocking everyone out in a haze of pear drop scented chemicals? Go Nancy and Mimi!
Ach, I could never hate your work ;) In Scotland we would say 'bairn' or 'wean' [pronounced Wayne]. Where I live now they say 'baba' even about kids about my son's age [nearly 4]. Who'd have thought such a small, inoffensive word would trigger such debate? Carry on, what what, tally ho etc etc ;)
Well, Pinnochio, thanks for the comment and fave on 'Manolos...' - much appreciated! I shall now stick on my hair shirt and dunce's cap, and write a thousand times 'I will only write happy, fluffy, kindly things'. ;) All the best, Gill
Hi Jack: Thanks for your fave and comment or "Soir Bleu." I love ekphrasis because it gives me carte blanche to tell big, fat lies about someone else's narrative. This piece was fun to write but took years in the tinkering.
Hey Jack, just want to thank you for reading Snapshot. Appreciate your comments...family photos can be so telling and full of dark corners. And we all have them -- under the bed, stuffed in bags, hidden in closets, etc.
Jack, so glad you've never experienced it. If you ever feel it coming on, just swim as fast as you can. . .Think it's part of my Russian, Polish, Irish, Welsh and Italian heritage. All very passionate people and all a little screwy!
Hi Jack,
Thanks for checking out my post "Amateur Theory of the Universe" and for your kind words about it. Hope you didn't have too bad of nightmares about cosmic jellyfish.
Jack, if we could reincarnate as anyone we wanted, I would become Mozart because of his combination of musicality and idiocy. I am a true Idiotsky at heart, I love the fun side of things... thanks so much for what you said!!!
Hi Jack--Third excessively long wall I've tackled today. You guys are busy here at F'Naut and clearly well loved! Anyway, thanks for your love on "Happy Hour." I appreciate it much.
Jack, told JLD putting his ashes in the nearest dumpster. . .I will, however, make sure to put them in a box which previously contained a very expensive pair of shoes. . .Mar
SO glad you found "Hat Trick" COMIC, Jack. Me, too; all for fun, I thought. But Jeez, put a strap in the hands of a father, and some readers go Dickensian! Ha. Brutish father, blah blah. Sometimes this writing gig is like herding cats....
Thanks for fave-ing 'Shoot first' and taking the time to comment - I'm still mulling over your suggestion about losing the last line. Might try that when I find somewhere to submit. All the best, Gill
i'm not in a position to be generous, really...just growing alongside all of you. it is curious though isn't it: i have plenty of pieces that i don't think too much of but others do. still no idea what to do with that sentiment. suck up the sugar, i suppose.
Thank you for the comment on 'Beneath the Worlds.'
It's so interesting to me that it read to you as frightening. It's based on some ideas from a Werner Herzog documentary 'The Cave of Forgotten Dreams.' To me the landscape he depicts - man roaming alongside the wild animals - just felt incredible to me. (But maybe my piece is a bit darker!)
Holy Christmas, Jack ... took me twenty minutes to get to a clear space on your wall. Lotta people like you. Not surprising. Thanks for the fave and the comment on "The running from San Pedro blues." Only time I ever got seasick was in the wallows off Frisco Bay enroute to Seattle after a hard night in a bar near Pine and Jones on the hill.
Ralph never answered. I called out to him long and hard and often. I think he drowned.
Jack, you just described my story with the title of my favorite Beatles song (except for Paul's part in the middle) - thank you! And thanks for the read, too. fos.
jack, that is one of my own favorite sentiments that you picked out of <a href="http://www.fictionaut.com/stories/marcus-speh/in-the-nude">in the nude</a>. thank you. i suppose "vintage" is a compliment and doesn't just mean "aged & expensive" ;-)
Hi Jack! Thanks for the comment about Repatriation! I see you're wearing your viking horns with pride. :) For a moment I wasn't sure if that was a samurai or a viking helmet. Glad to see the larger picture on your wall.
Hi Jack, thank you for your comments on "For Liu Xiabo". I want to spread this poem far and wide so that we don't forget about this man. He is a modern revolutionary for non violent change.
Thanks Jack, having an out of body experience the last few days and think I've produced some automatic writing. I feel it coming on now so I added something for you to BREAKING NEWS
Jack, thanks for taking time to read and comment on House Rabbit, glad you enjoyed. Was telling Sam, I enjoyed last year's NL playoffs and the Giants WS win a lot. Tim Lincecum is so much fun to watch. Wilson's a great closer, they've got a great manager too.
Jack, if I ever become a famous author, will I get a few groupies? Thanks for the great comment on "The complete, unabridged contents of an abandoned diary found in Memphis."
Jack, thanks for the fave and the comment on "Romancing the bones of Belinda." I wish that for every flash I write, I had time enough to write a novel. Course, then I'd have to be Joyce Carol Oates.
Thank you for the comment on 'Blind'. (Though I don't quite get the Bette Paige ref?) And no: inspired more (at least in part) by some of my favourite animal totem archetypes. Snakes and jungle cats are obviously wonderful. :)
I would have responded sooner, but it took me 20 minutes to scroll down your page! Thanks for the kind words about "Fever". Any more cat stories I can look forward to?
Thanks for the kind comments on "Eggshell White Frigidaire" -- it's fiction indeed, although I'll never forget my mother's face when I arrived blood-drenched in the kitchen after little Brucie Clark shot me in the hand with his BB gun...
Jack, thanks so much for reading and commenting on Misplaced Emotions. Your reaction is just what I hoped, for things to be just a bit ambiguous. Thanks also for the fave. fos.
Jack, I really appreciate your comment on "Parrot". I fear that both Mirko and the parrot are heading into the eye of the storm. Stay tuned! And I just read your "Naked Ladies" which is one terrific story.
Jack, funny how our trifles ("The Truth Will Out") hit the bulls eye more often than the products of our hard labor. Thanks for liking and starring (!) this, whatever it is.
Glad you enjoyed The Dancing Lady. Thank you for reading. And thanks for the editorial suggestion. If it gets published again, I'll chop the last lines.
Hi Jack, thanks for reading and commenting on Get Me Gone. Another segment's upcoming at A-Minor, and a longer one's making the rounds- More shortly :) All best!
Jack, thanks for your comments on "Lunch Bird". They are appreciated and I will continue to tinker with it and keep your suggestion in mind. That's the kind of feedback I love to receive.
Jack, thanks for your comment on Picking Up Physicists. I thought Naked Ladies was phat, but didn't leave a note as it seemed a little late on. Looking forward to reading more of your extensive backlog.
And the winner is...!Thanks for your comments on Home Invasion (Johnny Dangerously) which I renamed Hello Kitty.
I will not republish with the new title to save you re-reading saying to yourself,” haven’t I already read this damn thing? Like some stupid Tom Clancy paperback in the airport where they changed the cover causing you to get halfway to St. Louis before you realize you’ve already read it.
LS
Hi Jack - your comment and fave on Too Late warmed my heart and made my day. Also made me feel good about going ahead and publishing this :) Thank you.
Mr. Swenson, with a Nordic helmet (I do love me a viking photo), thank you so much for reading, commenting, and faving my 1999 piece. I look forward to your pillaging. All the best, HM
Captain Ron is one of a kind; nobody from around here, Earth, could ever fill his shoes, because Captain Ron doesn't wear any shoes. He is half Chuck Norris, and half the Most Interesting Man in the World in the Dos Equis commercials. He is one man who can replace two and a half men. Somebody call CBS.
Hi Jack, glad you enjoyed Bad Attitude. Telan's one of those characters who's been kicking around for awhile waiting her turn, so your feedback on this segment's much appreciated. Thanks!
JS - My best guy...thank you mucho for reading and commenting on "Liplorn". C'mon, Jack...what would you tell the girl? :) Have a happy Valentine's Day.
Hi Jack - Thanks for the comment and the fave on "Safa's Hair." It's taken a long time for it to arrive at its current state, so what a relief that it is, at last, working!
Thanks for the comment on my quasi Jack London Robert Altman (McCabe and Mrs. Miller) piece. It seemed timely. I hope you too are surviving the winter. (I'm sure you're doing better than SoCal.) I'm flying thru SFO next week, pray for the fog to be out.
I do like "Silent Summer," but think the ending may be a bit too quick and telling. Just a thought for revision: I think an image that lingers would be a good end for this story, one that hints rather than declares too clear (like the characters' uncertainty). Show the vehicles driving off rather than just saying what they are. I think it can be stronger that way.
Jack, yes, Hydra, yes, snow here, yes horrible here. I really enjoyed your humor, Jack... haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
did you get my note that the books arrived? GORGEOUS & Enjoying reading!
Hey Jack, Thanks for your comment on Headstone. I write about a poem a decade, so I'd probably be dead before I'd qualify for your Poet of the Year award, but I appreciate the thought (it's what counts after all!).
Thanks for the encouragement on, A Life, Jack. Whenever there's a literary term I'm not quite sure of I throw it into a story to see if anyone salutes. Cheers, LS
Jack it's a looooong scroll to the comment box here, you gotta lot of fan mail! Thank you Jack for the high praise on "Bones" I feel very proud that you wrote that about my story.
"Ah, yes, the dreaded MM. Yet Marlow begins his sentences with subject & verb. What to do? What to do? And the AHD says either oversize and oversized is correct."
I knew I never get those by you!
Happy holidays, Jack!
Thanks Jack, for the Critic's Dance contest. I've been edititing this right on the posting (I know I shouldn't) After your comment I considered cutting it to just the next to last paragraph. "Flashing it for fictionaut"
Thank you, Jack. I'm trying to create a bit more texture throughout this work with the letters. I so appreciate you sticking with, following this story.
Thank you, Jack. I'm trying to create a bit more texture throughout this work with the letters. I so appreciate you sticking with, following this story.
Thanks for Requiem comment Jack. BTW did you see recently; cats have an innate understanding of hydraulics? The way they lap water with an upside-down tongue curl is unique.
Thanks for the kind words and fave on Eat, Pray, Network, Jack! Best (personal) writing advice I ever got was: You're best when the issue is right in your face! :)
"Well, this ain't stupid stuff." I'll take it! Thanks, Jack, for commenting on "I Am Not a Corpse." Never know what you're going to say but always happy to have you say it.
Jack, thank you for reading Unpacking Sentences. I am not exactly sure what makes it Lishish (which I assume is not the same as delicious), but having spent the summer in Lish's presence on a weekly basis, I'll take it!
Jack! I believe I was reading yours while you were reading mine. How wonderful. I was completely caught up in "Welcome Back" -- such outstanding stuff to read. Been away a while, so good to be back. And thanks SO VERY MUCH for that generous comment on Two Trees. You are a dear.
Jack, the term "lament" is an ideal fit for this piece. So glad you continue to read and comment. Your feedback usually causes me to look at what I've written in a slightly different way. Best, I.
Thank you for reading The Dancing Lady. Yea, I was thinking about chopping off the first half, but I don't know. Gotta play with it a little more. I always enjoy hearing from you. I've learned a lot these past several months.
Wow, "brave writer"? Thanks for the awesome compliment(s) on "Nowhere in Sight". It comes from the heart so glad it affected it. I really appreciate it, JS.
Hi Jack! Thanks for reading and commenting on Calluses ... I'm pretty new to Fictionaut so I'm just catching on to seeing comments and replying, but I love interacting with other writers, so your comment means a lot!
Jack - I'm so glad that Marjory's bag gave you a laugh, and that you were taken with (the very different) Anything Again. I do so appreciate you keeping up and encouraging my mad ramblings this week. I'll be quiet again for a while now!
thanks for the comment about music betw. the sheets, Jack! Since you're not on Facebook (or are you?) I should tell you I am feeling Naughty Naughty this week anyway... Thanks for reading Escalation. Thanks for reading, always.
Jack, thanks for reading The Last Time. The original didn't have the dream ending, as you wished wouldn't happen. Being relatively new to Flash, I thought it needed a snap ending. Either works. And congrats on Naughty Naughty!
Jack, thanks so much for your amazing comment on COCHINOS. I want to bronze it. I'm just starting to market my stories and after seven rejections this week, I've been licking my papercuts. Your kind words righted my world. Thank you.
Thank you for the encouraging words about Peace of Mind. Rick Magazine just opened up, offshoot of Mississippi Review online, so maybe I'll send it there. You should check them out, too. I certain they'd like your work.
Oh gosh Jack, no, no sarcasm was intended regarding your Author's Note on Cats. I was sincere! I loved the note and think it is quite accurate, even when your work is dark and marvelously twisty, there is still a heartfelt optimism about the goodness of people's natures.
Thank you for reading White Death. Glad you liked it. White Death is a general term divers, swimmers, surfers, give to the Great White Shark, so I can't take the credit for coining it.
Thanks, Jack, for the vivid appreciation of Prologue. It really is a prologue--for somethig I was losing interest in chasing, but if you and some of the vets like the overture, maybe I'll stay this opera a while longer.
Aw, Jack, you made me blush this morning. Twice. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and raucous nature and kick-ass stories. And for the comment on Bedtime Story. Lovely way to start my day.
Hi Jack,
I'm in the midst of reading your Spiders story collection. I'm loving every single one. You are one hell of a story writer. Thanks for all of the pleasure you are brining me.
Hope your weekend is going swell.
Growing up we had 9+ cats at one point. We took in a cat, she had a litter, then someone walking by our house one day saw that we had kittens and dumped another litter in our yard and ran.
cheers for your comment on wolfskin, jack. i expect it'd have scared me senseless as a child too. (i was freaked out enough by the story of the three little pigs and that big bad wolf.)
the nice thing about when it's my own writing is that i find it pretty hard to unnerve myself.
Jack, rats in general are disgusting, but your story "Rats" has this indefinable adorable quality-- Cannot explain why. You have the magic. You have made "Rats" adorable
Hi Jack, Just loving your new story collection "Oh the Girls in France," what a treat to read one winner after the next. Best collection of short-short stories I've read in a very long time.
Congratulations!
Thanks Jack. It just seems like a lifetime ago - about four years really. I rewrote, edited and added words from the original before posting on here. Thanks again for your nice words. Much appreciated!
Jack, Thank you so much for your comment on "Two" of Sunday Morning Series. Hope you continue to enjoy what I post, and I continue to hear from you. I'm on my way to reading "the words you put on paper". Also this cohesive community of supportive writers. ~ J
Jack, thank you for reading "Map to the Heart," and for your comment. I've been feeling like I need to elaborate my stories more, so your comment was really helpful!
Thank you for reading Afshan. I agree that it ends abruptly, but with a limit of 250 words, the ending was tough to write. In fact, in all my writings, my endings are the weakest part.
I would not dream of taking away ayour fav! It's just that 'Mort' means death in french. Are you sure you won't reconsider - I thought is so clever of you! Maybe subconsciously???
Oh Jack, so sorry. As a wordsmith, and as a wordsmith who drives those around me crazy when the wrong words are used, when I am called "pal" when what is meant is "love of my love,", I take back the silly and thoughtless use of the word "sick." But I was including myself in that!
We are different, wonderfully, uniquely different. All one of a kinds!
You slay me, Jack! About The Celebrity. How sick are we writers, when it's cool that the rehab is where Raymond Carver sobered up! But it all makes for a great story, and that's what we're truly after!
Hey Jack -- thanks for the comment on Rock On. Glad the dialogue worked for you; it was fun to write. That Bell sure got me going, with his George Saunders story, and while I didn't set out to make it like Beckett, it turned out that way, and then those turnips and radishes and carrots turned up at the right spot. So that's great to hear that it reminded you of Godot -- that's a lovely compliment!
Jack, your writerly advice column is excellent and has the Jack Swenson humor-touch which makes it esp fun to read. Now if I can just remember... ha ha
Thanks for the comments on Addict. I think I read in AARP that after a certain age it doesn't matter any more if you're a slavering addict. I'm on track, Jack. (couldn't resist)Cheers
Hey Jack, thank you so much for your kind comment on Hummingbird, it means a lot to me. Loved reading your interview on the Fictionaut blog - good luck with those books, we're looking forward to them. M
Thanks for liking the commas in "Failure." What's that called when a semi uses its engine as a brake to help slow down the rig? I find that's what those final commas do--it's loud and jerky, but it WORKS.
Enjoyed Meg's interview with you, Jack. Especially liked the connection with WC Williams' fiction. Also, excited about the prospects of the four collections. It will be interesting to see how that project develops.
Jack you deserve to know: none of my stories are real. Neither do any of the barbarisms in them reflect the opinions of management. I used to have two cats, a calico and a tiger, aptly named Bonnie and Clyde. Since then no pets. I can't stand it when a pet departs this world. The real Eli does however love chasing cats. I think he's mostly retarded.
I'm sure I don't get the Norwegion inside jokes, Jack, but I do try. But lay some German humor on me, and watch me go! Er, wait a minute... um, yeah, they have humor, I'm pretty sure of it. Yes, yes, they do. (I think.) Love your stories, and the comments they provoke!
Glad you liked "Wedding Tree," Jack. It's loosely based on a real tornado and real tree and real father-actions from my real youth (though female speaker is fictionated).
Welcome. You probably know this already, but you can advertise your books on you profile page. As soon as I get back to the US, I'm going to pick up one, probably all of them eventually. I don't trust the mail system in the Philippines. Been waiting for a few things to arrive for 2 months now and will more than likely never see them.
Thanks for reading Leaves of Yesterday and your suggestions. If you please, check back in a few days and let me know if you approve of the corrections. I respect your judgment, so please, don't hold back.
Thank you for reading Yasamon. Yes, I have a series going, trying to make a chapbook. The first one I posted was Land of the Four Rivers. Others: Secret Love, Intention, Solitude, Garden Light, Humility, and Sacred Rock. I know that you've read most, if not all of these. I'm still working on changing Intention based on your suggestions.
Thanks for reading Urumqi. Maybe one day I can turn it into a longer story. Basically, the Chinese government is trying to take away ancient tradition of the people their and to "modernize" them. I got the idea of the story from a news article. Need to do more research before it becomes a longer story, though.
thanks for your comment on Love, Story, Jack. I like punctuation, too! Especially commas (and the occasional exclamation point... and ellipses; sometimes I even employ semi-colons but would you believe that someone recently told me that colons and semi-colons are obsolete? it ain't so: they were mistaken).
Thanks so much for your comment on I Wanted To Say That Your Hands Are Like Unfurling Leaves, it's much appreciated. I'm glad something good could come out of my silly fight with my girlfriend!
Thank you for reading Back in an Hour. Glad you enjoyed it. Actually I didn't meet my fiance at the supermarket, either. I met her at a computer shop in the Philippines of all places. Who would have thought.
thanks jack! when you were standing, after reading 'flatulence' - were you, you know, generating ... wind? it'd be understandable. great enthusiasm makes for smelly ones. ;-))
How interesting that it was a Carver story that got you going again. He is masterful, in my opinion. Yours stories have that same honest stripped down quality
Thanks for the haikuproval, Jack. I just strive to capture the essence (as with all my writing) of a brief scene/act/understanding as efficiently as possible. Some events in life simply are haiku-ready, so to speak.
They're like the little pebbles at the bottom of my rock collection!
Hey Jack, thanks for the read. I don't like tricking people, which is why I quit writing stories with a twist in the tail - I guess I fell off the wagon.
Thanks for the read and the comments on my "Hollister" - yes UBU & Lonelyhearts, how did I omit Chekov? - different days, different moods. I'll be reading yours.
Hi, Jack. I'm from Pike County, Kentucky. The most eastern county in the commonwealth. Wild country. I don't know McClanahan, but I've enjoyed reading his work. My uncle, a poet and early mentor, pushed his books on me from the get go. So good to hear from you. Look forward to reading more of your work.
Oh, Jack, I hope I didn't give you a writing lesson. Firstly you don't need one, and it is something I strenuously avoid when commenting. I have a hard time giving and taking critique. I think the writer is best slogging it out alone until the pieces fall in place au natural. But this aside, it's always nice hearing from you
I wonder why you call Mona an antique? Do you mean it was written long ago or that it's dated in some way? If the latter, I disagree. Last year I wrote a story where Jack Benny was on the radio and a saxophone player used pomade to make his hair gleam and people said, "Aw, nuts, pal, lay offa that stuff." I don't think any story that uses the props of a time and place is antique.
No need for thanks, Jack, though I'm glad you take my comments to heart. I'm just used to close-reading, not for editing reasons but to find the jewels within a story that makes it special. And, to learn from writers who can provide those moments of discovery. I'm tired of some of the "new" style of writing that passes itself off as edgy yet doesn't hold a story within it. Yours always does.
been there (anonymous) and now we're doing a couple hits a day feeling like criminals. oh well. thanks for the support, jack. perhaps you need to pen a sequel "how quitting saved my marriage and more". though looking at your stories, that title wouldn't be your style ;-)
sorry to let you know Dave Brubeck is in his 90th year. to make you feel better I suggest checking out any of his recording he has made for the Telarc Lable. his albums he's released in the last 10 years are some of his best.
Hey Jack, thanks again for checking out Vague Obscenities. By the by, I see that a Carver story got you writing fiction again. Which one? Love the guy's stories, especially "Cathedral" and "A Small, Good Thing" and about 30 others.
you are very welcome! and as for midwestern rivalries, i'm fairly certain the minnesotans have the edge. "Idiots Out Walking Around..." sigh. we'll think up a comeback one of these days. :)
Thank you for reading and commenting on "Swoon," Jack! Are you really a Viking?
Jack? JACK!!!! Yay!
Hey Jack, I haven't been on Fictionaut in a while (sorry), and can't recall whether I thanked you for your comment on my piece about an owl. Best to you!
Wow, you have a very long wall...somehow that feels dirtier to say than it is
Hi Jack: What a great comment about my POV choice in "For the Lost Boys!" Thanks!
Hi, Jack. Thanks for reading, 'Heart of Gold,' laughing, commenting, and *.
Jack the Mac, goodness. Thanks for liking my music flash. You're too kind.
Thank you for commenting on Human Trafficking. Much appreciated.
Haha, any time, Jack!
Thanks, Jack, for liking and faving "Exercises in the A of B."
Thanks, Jack, for your support and for the nice comments about 'Domestic Particulars...'
Thanks, Jack for the comment and fav for "The Last Chance...Story Contest." Still no entrants, though; hard to fathom.
Hi, Jack. Thanks for reading, 'Lule of Raw-2.' I greatly appreciate your insightful comment and *.
Hi Jack: I've now gotten my exercise for the day by walking down your wall! Thanks for commenting on "For the Lost Boys." I appreciate you as a reader.
Hey Jack, thanks a bunch for the kind words & fave for "Baby, Baby..." I really appreciate it!
Thanks, Jack, for reading and commenting on chairs and mirrors. I appreciate both. fos.
yes, jack, the "occupy" stories are certainly coming in now...lulu as print shop is a great idea, and i thank you for suggesting me but, you know...the teaching term, the little writing i get to do...the family...you know how it is. "occupy" has distracted me from the hiatus i had in mind (and that i'm still steering towards)....
Hi, Jack. Thanks for reading, 'In Distress.' I greatly appreciate your comment and *.
Thanks, Jack, for your comments on Texas Tornado. It was a fun piece to write.
Thank you, Jack, for your faves! Bless you!
"In your dreams." Ha!
Thanks for faving ""Fish Boil." Jack!
Thanks for paying Old Tom Joad a visit always appreciate your reads and faves!
Ha! ha! Your comment on "Before the Door" really cracked me up! Thanks for the fave, jack.
Hi, Jack. Thanks for reading, 'Lule of Raw.' Your comment and * are greatly appreciated.
Docs--can't live with them, can't live without them. Thanks for the fave. Glad you like the "Ketone" piece.
Cheeze! How'd you ever find "Par Delicatesse"? Thanks for faving it!
Thanks, Jack, for reading 'A Life of My Own-8.' I greatly appreciate. And the *, too.
Hello, magnificent Jack--Thanks for reading, following and faving. Love hearing your commentary.
Thanks for your lovely comment on "Missy"!
thank you, jack. if it can't be stopped perhaps it can be tamed, but i'm not so optimistic this time.
Great comment. Thanks, Jack, for faving "Love and How It Gets That Way."
"Mythology, T-shirts, Bowties, and Vomit." Good book title!
Thanks, Jack! You are stellar.
Thanks for liking my lingering little pivotal moment, Jack.
HI Jack: You were my second "wow" for this piece--that wowed me! Thank you, my friend. I appreciate you.
Thanks, Jack for reading and commenting on "Base," sliced life with a dull knife...

Thanks for commenting on and faving "George," Jack. Glad you liked it.
Ha ha! I meant your mad speaker. Somehow, that just seemed right for him--closet transvestite.

9 cats? You're nuts.
I did read Superman and Woman as a kid...but it's not "their" S that gets me. Just a strange affinity I have....
Jack-

Thank you for reading Afshan. I agree that it ends abruptly, but with a limit of 250 words, the ending was tough to write. In fact, in all my writings, my endings are the weakest part.
Hi Jack, thanks for your read & comment on Peach (2). Glad you enjoyed her.
Jack--thanks for reading. I'm a relatively-unscarred veteran of Catholic schools, and so have more fond memories than most lapsed Catholics.
Thanks, Jack :-)
Many thanks, Jack, for your kind words on "I don't have a gun." I'm thrilled you enjoyed it :)!
Yes, you are!
I would not dream of taking away ayour fav! It's just that 'Mort' means death in french. Are you sure you won't reconsider - I thought is so clever of you! Maybe subconsciously???
Thank you for your kind words on Bean Talk.
Thanks, Jack, for the comment on "The Pure Land."
That was meant to be "love of my life!" not love of my love! Bad, bad wordsmith at work tonight. Too much writing and editing.
Thanks, Jack, for your nice comments, yes, we should never forget.
I am the KING of bad dreams!
;-)
Hi Jack - send me a line if you post a story :) Have been swamped with work, but don't want to miss yours!
Thank you for the nice words on Young Journey. Glad you liked it.
Jack, thanks for your kind comments on Priest in Kilvarnet. You're a fine writer and I look forward to reading more of your work.
Do you think you could get hired onto the committee? (PC Prize). Ha ha! Thank you, Jack
Jack! Thanks for your comment on Elephant, and the support for the raw and unpolished. WOW, that means a lot. Really appreciate it.
Hey Jack, thank you so much for your kind comment on Hummingbird, it means a lot to me. Loved reading your interview on the Fictionaut blog - good luck with those books, we're looking forward to them. M
Thank you for reading Nothing to Do. I thought about cutting the last stanza. I'll leave it for now, though.
Thanks for wanting more of Rocamadour, Jack ! I always appreciate your comments.
Thanks for faving (is that a word?) Beatnik Blonde and for thinking I know what I'm doing :)
Thanks for liking the commas in "Failure." What's that called when a semi uses its engine as a brake to help slow down the rig? I find that's what those final commas do--it's loud and jerky, but it WORKS.
Thank you for reading and I assume, faving The Luckiest Guy Around. Yes, its fiction.
Jack - thanks for the comments on "Walking" - memories yes, softened by years
Thanks for the nice words about, Empty House, Jack. :-)
Thank you for the kind words about Tsalagi.
Enjoyed Meg's interview with you, Jack. Especially liked the connection with WC Williams' fiction. Also, excited about the prospects of the four collections. It will be interesting to see how that project develops.
Jacko, this is a very cool interview, indeed! As is the Short Review piece and interview! Congrats to you my dear friend and very fine story writer
Great interview Meg Pokrass did with you! Very much enjoyed reading it and learning more about you and your work.
Thanks for the interest, Jack.
I pin stars on most of your stuff.
Jack, appreciate your insight about my poem. Thanks muchly once again :-)
Thank you for reading My Girlfriend's Birthday. Glad you liked it.
Thanks so much for the comment, Jack.
I have only one cat.
Love your job description, Jack, - Cat Herder - what does that entail?
Not at all, Jack (me being way too generous) You are a brilliant writer!
Jack, thx for reading and enjoying my bbq story.
Thanks, Jack. Appreciate your comment about "Blossoms and Buds."
Black pumpkins, indeed. Thank you for reading.
Jack,
Thanks for reading The First Date Questionnaire. Hagar the Horrible, huh!
Them crazy characters are my people! Thanks for the fave on "Giving Notice."
Total thanks, Jack, for your note on "My Thumbs." Is that you in that fierce Viking get-up?
Jack, thanks - you're the master, horns and all.
Ray is definitely your muse, he's calling to you (Where I'm Calling From). It's your writer voice that's so distinct and clear that makes me feel this
"Come on over! Lutefisk for dinner with mashed potatoes and lime Jell-o."
Thanks! You make it sound so, uh, so... like SUCH a good, uh...
Sorry. Can't make it.
;-
Thanks Jack, it's how I felt.
Thank you for reading Tatev. I always appreciate your comments.
Jack, thanks for taking the time to read, for the fav and for your great comments on Doreen. I really appreciate it.
Jacko, "Secrets" is a real gem, each little secret shines in its own brightly dark way
I'm sure I don't get the Norwegion inside jokes, Jack, but I do try. But lay some German humor on me, and watch me go! Er, wait a minute... um, yeah, they have humor, I'm pretty sure of it. Yes, yes, they do. (I think.) Love your stories, and the comments they provoke!
Nice to see you at NC Writers.
Jack -- thanks for your comment on Routine. .38's in the nightstand drawer.
Thank you so much for your comments on The Deer Collage, Jack! Especially appreciated, coming from a cat herder :)
Thanks again, Jack. That poem brought back lots of childhood memories - I'd forgotten all about the cook's frieze until I started writing it.
Jack, I really appreciate you taking the time to read This Girl in That Shirt. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.
Glad you liked "Wedding Tree," Jack. It's loosely based on a real tornado and real tree and real father-actions from my real youth (though female speaker is fictionated).
Thank you for the nice comment on The Winds of May. I working on the beginning right now.
Thanks for your encouraging response to "Color Wheel." It's nice to feel so welcome right off the bat.
Hey Jack!
Hey Jack, thanks for reading Nine and five, and thanks for your comments, too. foster.
Welcome. You probably know this already, but you can advertise your books on you profile page. As soon as I get back to the US, I'm going to pick up one, probably all of them eventually. I don't trust the mail system in the Philippines. Been waiting for a few things to arrive for 2 months now and will more than likely never see them.
Thanks for your kind words, Jack.
Thank you for reading and commenting on My Rice Krispies Treat. Greed, yes, twisted humor perhaps.
Thanks for your comments on The Turkey that Couldn't Gobble. Now to find an illustrator or get back into drawing myself.
Thank you for reading and commenting on Muted Corners. Based on your suggestions, I changed it around a bit.
Thanks for reading Leaves of Yesterday and your suggestions. If you please, check back in a few days and let me know if you approve of the corrections. I respect your judgment, so please, don't hold back.
Thanks for commenting on Blue Light. It means a lot. Awesome new profile pic, too.
Thanks, Jack, for the note on "Hammer Nail Nail"--glad you liked the last line!
Thanks, Jack, for the read and comments on "Mrs. Booth"--you nailed the mood.
Jack - thanks for stopping by for kaffe with the tantes. We appreciate it.
Ha, I'm 40 and I actually like being where I am, but the birthday thing right up top seems too prominent or definitive, or something. ;-)
We have the same birthday!
Thank you for reading and commenting on Thunder Snow. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi, Jack - thank you for your lovely comment on 'Nobody Told Marni'. All best, M.
Thanks for reading and your comments on Intention and Garden Light. Some good points about Intention. I'll see what I can do to change it.
Hey Jack, thanks for reading and commenting on A Boy and His Tire. foster.
thanks for your comment on Love, Story, Jack. I like punctuation, too! Especially commas (and the occasional exclamation point... and ellipses; sometimes I even employ semi-colons but would you believe that someone recently told me that colons and semi-colons are obsolete? it ain't so: they were mistaken).
"Are you bitter?" he asked.
"Bitter?! Bit him, too!" she said.
Thank you for your comment on Pleiku Jacket and for being such a generous reader.
Figs ARE weird!! Ha!!! I miss you and thank you for your kind words and cautionary feelings about figs!
Thanks so much for your comment on I Wanted To Say That Your Hands Are Like Unfurling Leaves, it's much appreciated. I'm glad something good could come out of my silly fight with my girlfriend!
"Nice pairing. Impatience/patience."
Neat. Hadn't seen that until you mentioned it.
Jack-- isn't Tales of the City a novel about SFO with that same title? You may have to re-think your title for your upcoming collection
Thanks for reading 15 Minutes More. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for reading Back in an Hour. Glad you enjoyed it. Actually I didn't meet my fiance at the supermarket, either. I met her at a computer shop in the Philippines of all places. Who would have thought.
Jack, do tell us more about tales of SF. I'm intrigued by this character you made and his rich inner/outer life
Hi Jack,
Thank you so much for your kind comments on 'Our Stop' - I'm new to this and I really appreciate you stopping by.
Martha
Hi Jack, thanks for reading The Hangman, and for the comments, too! foster.
yr welcome, jack - everybody standing on someone else's shoulders - one of the most applicable cliches around!
First, I need to get work as a writer, man!
I *thought* you might like the cat poems.
;-)
Thanks, Jack for your kind comments. Much appreciated.
thanks jack! when you were standing, after reading 'flatulence' - were you, you know, generating ... wind? it'd be understandable. great enthusiasm makes for smelly ones. ;-))
Did I thank you yet for your kind "Snowsuit" comments?
Very best,
RR
Hey Jack, thanks for reading Eight States Away - and thanks for the comments, too! foster.
thank you so much for your nice comments about my story, "North of Center." It means a lot to get good feedback from people whose work I enjoy :)
Jack, thanks so much for the thumbs up and the comments- very nice of you!
Jack, thanks for reading "Eddie Says" and for your kind words!
Hey Jack, thanks for the read. I don't like tricking people, which is why I quit writing stories with a twist in the tail - I guess I fell off the wagon.
Thanks so much for your kind words on HABITS DIE HARD. you and others are making me feel very welcome here. Peace...
Jack,
Thanks for the read and the comments on my "Hollister" - yes UBU & Lonelyhearts, how did I omit Chekov? - different days, different moods. I'll be reading yours.
Walter
You're busted, Mystery Faver!
Jack-
Minnesota's looking nice this year. ice fishing ended early, but motorcycle riding started early to make up for it. Mild is wild.
John Woodington
Hey Jack - You are welcome! And, surely don't lose your sense of roguish-ness. It's an essential quality for us writers :)
Perhaps I should rephrase my comment! I liked a lot of things about Mannequin, but I liked the syntax best of all.
Jack, Thanks so much for reading -- and commenting on Girl. I really appreciate it.
Hi Jack. Thanks for your comments on Invisible Grime - happy you liked it.
Jack, "The Birds" are circling but not ominously, they have settled on the F'naut wire to gaze down upon us. What must they be thinking?Great piece
Hello Jack! I remember you from Full Of Crow!
Always a pleasure - feel like I learn something about the process and the craft whenever I read the work you share here.
Thanks for your comment on my story!
Jack, don't go by me on the micros; it seems to be a trend lately, although in most cases they seem to have a connective tissue of some sort.
I'm blushing Jack
"Quitting" reminded me of a story I wrote many years ago, about a couple who were both on the Atkins diet, Jack. I love the dialog of your story.
Jack, I really appreciate your going back and reading my stories. I'm not participating much here anymore, but it's nice to hear from you, always.
Jack the feeling is mutual
been there (anonymous) and now we're doing a couple hits a day feeling like criminals. oh well. thanks for the support, jack. perhaps you need to pen a sequel "how quitting saved my marriage and more". though looking at your stories, that title wouldn't be your style ;-)
Hi Jack, thanks for reading Cactus - I really appreciate your comments.
Thanks, Jack, for your generous comments & support :)
Jack:
sorry to let you know Dave Brubeck is in his 90th year. to make you feel better I suggest checking out any of his recording he has made for the Telarc Lable. his albums he's released in the last 10 years are some of his best.
Hey Jack, thanks again for checking out Vague Obscenities. By the by, I see that a Carver story got you writing fiction again. Which one? Love the guy's stories, especially "Cathedral" and "A Small, Good Thing" and about 30 others.
Let's call it nasty and nice. I tend to find those one and the same, at least in writing.
"Hey, Matt. How did you hurt your leg?"
I was in a genetics accident back in the woods.
Jack, your comment on my latest story was really wonderful, and I wanted to thank you twice
OK Jack, you caught me exaggerating! Gawd. My mother was right. She always told me to stop exaggerating!
Hi Jack, thanks for your comments on A Life Twice Told - I'm glad you liked this one.
Thank you so much for your kind comments on my short story, Reversal.
Thank you so much for your kind comments on "Reversal."
Tusen takk for your comment on The News!
Thanks, Jack, for your comments. Looking at the lonely hearts pages is a wonderful exercise in compassion! Probably because I'm lonely too. :)
Hi Jack - Thanks for faving Punch Patty! And Zoo Animals IS brilliant :)
Thanks for the nice comments. It was a blast to write.
you are very welcome! and as for midwestern rivalries, i'm fairly certain the minnesotans have the edge. "Idiots Out Walking Around..." sigh. we'll think up a comeback one of these days. :)
I'm glad that I could make you laugh out loud, Jack. That's a nice way to start out the day.
Yes, Nora, but not on payday.
film director, teacher... same thing ;-)
PS somebody wrote "i love your movies"... are you a film director? if so, how lovely for you.
hi Jack, thanks for commenting on my poem "Lizard".
Thanks, Jack! Means a lot coming from you, sir, the Master of the Punch.
Thanks again Jack - Old Wounds is grand!
Enjoyed reading "Estranged" at Wigleaf, Jack. Great work. Congratulations.
hey Jack--"Estranged" is up! will provide the link ha-- http://wigleaf.com/
