Artist, writer, editor
Stories and poems usually start with character & place. Elmore Leonard's advice about letting dialogue lead works for me too.
John Crowley's 'Little, Big' & Aegypt cycle. Cormac McCarthy's 'No Country' & 'Suttree'. M. John Harrison's 'Light', 'Nova Swing', and his short story collection 'Things That Never Happen'. Anything by William Gibson. Robert B. Parker's Spenser series.
Oh, yes. Thanks, Mark, for your nice comments about my Neil Young poem.
Thanks for your comment on Binge Painter. I suppose it's not the best recipe for success.
Thank you for your comments on "Water." I appreciated them very much!
Thanks, Mark, for your kind words about 'Ray's People...' I rarely feel like I know what I'm doing when I'm in the middle of something. Always a little surprised and befuddled by the whole process.

Mark, I'm blown away by your kind comments on "That Night" - one of the first fiction pieces I'd ever written. So wonderful to hear folks like it.
I see in your profile you're in Elmira - big ! - I grew up in Liberty, PA just south of you (near Williamsport). We used to go to the mall in Elmira shopping and to the Corning Glass Museum once a year. I imagine things have changed a lot since then. How does a farm girl from north central PA end up in New Zealand...never know where life leads us. But I got a warm fuzzy feeling when I saw Elmira, NY. Thanks for that!
Thanks, Mark, for your tight, exuberant praise of 'At the Home 70 Years Later.'
Thanks, Mark, for your warm comments about "Saying It with Flowers."
