Thank you for reading and commenting on "For the Lost Boys" and I'm happy you liked my squirrel tartare line--it was a bit controversial. I like it too.
p.s. I'm sitting at my dining room table cutting a holiday bedsheet into 350 thin strips for a school craft and listening to The Black Keys. Fictionaut is a nice diversion.
jules, your comment on "ginger" is most gratifying. i love the energy you bring to your writing and to everything you do, and i'm happy to walk away with a slice of that source. cheers!
good to have you back, jules, old girl. thank you for your comment on "under the apple tree". any "yowza" from you is greatly appreciated and will be put into the basket with the good apples.
Telling a writer their work is getting better at any stage is always one of the top three things anyone working this craft hopes to hear. Thank you for that, Jules. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story.
Thanks for the comment on "On China not buying salmon from Norway". I should abbreviate that right? Glad you enjoyed it. I hope the humor came through. Free Liu Xiabo!
Wow, I was reading Darryl's post at the bottom just above the comment box and typed his name. Bwahahahahahaha, sorry.
Thanks for reading "I will be a child again". Seriously though, you should compile a book of your Twitter posts. Peace!
I have a vision, and it is of you and me, years into the future, racing down the sidewalk in our matching Rascal scooters. Let's make this vision a reality, Jules.
Oh, and thanks for reading my shit and stuff :)
Sorry, Jules. No, nothing bad is going to happen in "Big." My dad was a hunter. He liked knives; I feel the same way. Objects of beauty. No more dangerous than an attractive woman.
Jules - thank you for the comment and the fave on 2006. You were my tenth * and that makes you very special to me. Well ... more than you already are :) xoxo
Congrats on the pub in Blue Fifth Review. Any story about bowling is all right by me. I’m a pretty serious league bowler (except we bowl candlepins up thisaway), and when my current girlfriend asked me out to go bowling with her as a first date, I nixed the idea because I knew I would be more focused on winning than on making a good impression. Your story reminded me of that.
Jules -I'm glad you enjoyed Perfect. And that is my real name. As a kid Swanson did cause me a bit of trouble in school so when I could I went by Rick, short for Ricky which my grandmother called me because of her love for Little Ricky on the TV show 'I Love Lucy.'
Hey, thanks for your comment, Jules! I had the misfortune of being dragged to The Green Hornet yesterday, and the one thing I did love about it was the flip-down record player installed in the backseat of the Green Hornet car. Sweet! Want.
Jules, I appreciate the "Great" on my poem, "You Are." I taught junior high English: The Outsiders was always an up for us all. That and the grisly stories of Raold Dahl like "The Landlady."
Thank you for reading, Jules. I'm fonder of some people more than I am others (the favorites know who they are). Please consider yourself a favorite. Your words mean a lot.
Thank you reading and commenting on "Dog" - and for the fav! It means a lot to me that you read me. And take the time to comment. And are generous with your stars. Thank you!
Hi Jules! Pleased to meet you in the annonymous internet sort of way :) That's a lie--we probably all know each other better than our own friends and family--we're writing, and by doing so, we divulge our insecurities, passions, hopes, etc, without speaking a word.
Ouch. That got a little heavy for a second. Sorry. Anyway, good to be here, and eager to read more of your work!
Hey Jules, Thank you for your lovely comment on It Stops. It means a lot. Just back at fictionaut after mad busy time. Lovely to have a warm welcome back!
Thank you, Jules! I really appreciate your reading and your generous comment and I look forward to reading your stories and so many others here as well!
Jules, I have reading to catch up on, and I think I missed a poem of yours that's at the top of the recommended list!, but I wanted to say thanks for your insightful comments on Gin And A Cowboy. I've cut more words since its original posting, and I think you were right about the "Luthers". Initially intended for effect, then perhaps to keep clear the speaker, but ultimately unnecessary... a great thing about asking for actual feedback! So thank you, fellow Poe!
Jules thanks so much for the kind words for "Repair Man." I'd say, as magical realism it has its own reality, so it's a little strange. But I appreciate your having a look and commenting!
Jules, thank you for your lovely comment on my tale of magic and the guitar, “The Duende.” Much appreciated, and happy my story hit the right notes with you.
Hey, I'm writing on your wall AGAIN! This time in lipstick. Not my one, of course.
Thanks for reading and commenting and faving "Ex-husband" - since when did * come to mean fav? I'm just sad I didn't get the memo. And it took me a long ass time to figure out. #oldman
Hi Julie--
Thanks for the compliments and FAV on "Cape Town". It's nice to have positive feeback on this very non-traditional structure. I look forward to reading your work. Love the profile pic!
Hey, there. Thank you for your reading and commenting, also for answering my message earlier. You've been helpful in getting me used to how things work.
Please forgive my lack of sophistication. Is * a typo, or I'm not sure what. All these sideways faces and such are confusing to me. I am not sure why you are clearing your throat ("Ahem."). Sorry. I think you are being nice, and that is nice, too.
My pleasure, Jules, "Mama's Mass" is superb storytelling. It's so moving. You have the confidence to be subtle in your storytelling. You just paint the scene and your characters so vividly and naturally. I will not soon forget that image of the mother and daughters walking to mass in the dark wearing their black coats and black gloves on a snowless night. I can see it like a film. Gave me goosebumps. Truly, I love your story.
Hey Jules, fellow drunk Poe writer, thanks for the great "awesomeness abounds" on Unpacking Sentences! Much appreciated. I think I have a story of yours to catch up on!
Don't know about "life lessons," but thanks for commenting on "Convictions," Jules. Glad you liked it. Reading anything 50 times though sounds like a punishment to me!
Jules - thank you so much for your comment on "Zelda" and yes, you pinned it, glad you liked that detail and I like the way you read my work. It's helpful and I very much appreciate it.
Thank you very much for the encouraging comments you have sent over the last few weeks. Being new to the site, I appreciate your helpfulness in making me feel welcome and comfortable with things here.
Much thanks, Jules, for reading Sweet Sour and saying cool things. Notice, of course, the words "sweet" and "sour" both begin with that wonderful letter S, as does my name. Just saying. Stay wicked.
Oh no, the girls thing, not yours Jules! I claim lack of sleep although it is brilliant so there's an implied compliment! Now I'm going to see what you *have* posted lately!
Thanks Jules for all your attention to my flurry of posts this week. Of course I'm happy you liked Godfrey, but even more pleased with your lovely comment on the more serious Anything Again and the fave! Much appreciated! I'v read your extended 'Girls' but was in too much of a flap to comment properly. I'll be back for a second read! x
Jules, many thanks for stopping in to read "We Have Eskimo Bars" and for your nice comment on my use of language and humour. As I know from your blog that you read Payboy in your spare time, I am especially glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed your comment on "Parables for Rodin," Jules. Thanks for reading and commenting.
"Especially the way the words flow and linger after each section." Yes, for me, it's all about the sound of words. Section 4 is just names, but I love how those words in that order roll off my tongue.
You are also right ("...linger") that the stanzas are all periodic in the sense that the last line in each intends the smack.
Jules, You are my kind of person! Thanks for your kind comment about my story "Worry." And you have been nominated as "Favorite Human" of the day by our nine cats!
Thanks for reading and commenting on Infinity Pool. For me, at the end, she's drowning. But is the ending her reality, or is the pool really an infinity pool? I like the fantastic version...
re: ending of "Small Potatoes." Don't have a specific idea in mind except to say something totally unexpected, unpredictable. Something with the effect of an icepick to the gut. Unleash your imagination on us. When you figure it out, it will feel exactly right.
Jules, thank you for your kind comment about "The Semaphore of Civilization" and my poems in general. Your generous reading of my work means a lot to me.
Hi Jules. That is completely bizarre that you would dream of my name! But so glad you reached out to tell me. Given the odd connection, I must immediately hit you as a contact and read your work!
Glad to hear I have your favorite letter in my name; and story. Thanks for your comments. Maybe I should replace my f words with s words... now there's a thought!
Jules, A late thank you for reading and commenting on 'Flash'. I wrote it much too fast, I just went back and edited it. Added another S word too, just for you (slash). x
Cheers, and I'm so glad my blog post was noteworthy for where you're at. I'm getting the feeling that these sort of feelings are going around in writers circles.
I'm so glad my comments helped, although I really didn't have any criticism for you. I was only able to point out the guidelines of The Glass Coin - which only apply to us.
"As I stepped out into the bright sunlight, from the darkness of the movie house, I only had two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home."
I love SE Hinton. I read everything by her when I was in High School. She got me into Robert Frost (my favorite poet) and she was the first book I read twice.
I LIKE THE IDEA OF WRITING TO ANNOY. But probably any writing is going to annoy. You can't get away from it it seems like.Someone out there is bound to be rubbed the wrong way. I think Abe Lincoln probably summed it up best with that "can't please all the people all the time" thing but if you're shooting for annoying all the people all the time, well, that's a mighty interesting undertaking. It treads dangerous water--that doesn't mean it doesn't have its rewards--so be careful what you put on your card. Although I thought it was rather funny and I wasn't annoyed at all.
Glad you liked Brace :)
Thank you for your comment on Stella. I'm working on taking up a whole variety of non-human voices.

I'll be back for a second read! x

Thanks for the vote of confidence, i was a little scared to post that story! :)
Jules, my eyes always light up when I get a note from you. Thanks for saying such nice things about my party story.

Not wrong! Not wrong! Thanks for commenting on "Something, He Wrote."
"With your poems - even though I may not get all of them…I get a gist and I love the writing.
Just had to tell you."
Lovely of you to say and wonderful to hear. Thanks, Jules!
re: ending of "Small Potatoes." Don't have a specific idea in mind except to say something totally unexpected, unpredictable. Something with the effect of an icepick to the gut. Unleash your imagination on us. When you figure it out, it will feel exactly right.
Jules, your comment melts me. I'm humbled. Thank you.
Jules, thanks for the read/comment on forest in the early morning, I found it interesting that you sensed them as kind of polar opposites, thanks
