About Me

A writer/editor whose career has included broadcasting (CBC-TV national network, TVOntario provincial network, CFMT-TV multilingual programming), journalism (The Globe and Mail, Ryerson University), advertising (Leo Burnett agency), and corporate communications (Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows). An "AmeriCanuck," he was born in Manhattan, influenced as a youth by the wilds of New Hampshire, lived most of his life in Toronto. May also be found exploring Europe or Ontario's north country. Likes big ideas that start small and small dogs with big heart - especially beagles. Has been known to be poetic and have a wicked good sense of humor.

Why do you write?

I start by writing for myself. I write what I know. I write what I dream. I write in the hope that what I have to say will enlighten and/or entertain. I write because I see the possibility of things.

I also write in the hope of connecting with an audience beyond myself. To me, a writer without a large appreciative audience is the sound of one hand clapping.

A note to readers of my short stories, non-fiction, and poetry, who are not members of Fictionaut and thus unable to post their comments on this website – I like hearing from you. Please email your comments to me in care of frank.vander.rasky [at] gmail [dot] com

thank you so much, frank. wonderful comment: "The Mediterranean glitters but is shut out by the narrator living behind closed shades." that is practically a story all by itself! i have exaggerated there (the crying singing man) but you know how it is - pictures of the past easily assume mythical proportions (especially when love is involved).
