Fish Eye: All really interesting and wise thoughts to ponder, the similarities and differences of skill-building and sustaining in all these arenas. Earlier in life I was a painter and found that taking breaks and just looking for awhile improved my work more than constant practice. Thanks for the comment on Obama. It's not as crazy as it sounds. Obama has a website for writing him email letters, as do all the Congressmen. I see it as my civic duty at the very least.
Mykell, thanks for sticking with Hemingway Test! You're about to move ahead of me on chapter count, as I've been tied up rewriting Sacrifice for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest. Posted my entry this morning.
I have to admit that the level of noise of the air show raised my anxiety as well. I mean, was it really the right place to take a kid for "entertainment"?
Mykell, much gratified that your interest in Hemingway Test extends to catching up when you get behind! I know the holiday season takes a toll on many, and I hope yours was fruitful and happy.
Thanks for your comment on Turning Tricks. It takes so long to get to the bottom of your list there's time for at least two or three more tricks. That's why I just switched to messages. It's not easy having a fan club.
Thank you for your comment on my poem "Regret". The stellar praise is very much appreciated. Laughter and sunshine are indeed vital ingredients in the broth of life.
Mykell, thanks for reading Chapter 4 of Hemingway Test. I'm putting it in the "novel excerpts" group to make room for a short story I just now finished. I think you'll get a kick out of it. ;-)
It's true. I do love this Sukkos story. I've been working on it for years on and off. Only because of my Fictionaut sequencing method is it getting done. Thank you for your heartfelt comment.
Mykell ~ Thanks for sticking with Hemingway Test. I'm happy that it still works for you. As to the "cat-clinker", I actually read that account in a news item some years ago. It wasn't really a cat, of course, but it reminded me of some of the oddly shaped chunks of dross in the ashes I'd remove from our coal-burning furnace as a yout'.
Mykell, I greatly appreciate your kind words for my little poem, Conjuring Love. I've been away several days getting my book uploaded to Amazon, and have probly missed your latest chapter of Assiduity. I intend to catch up!
Time: J.M./S.F. Do you know how many times "crazy" days at the clinic are blamed on the full moon? Forty-five minute sessions with no break? In that way, my brain injury was a blessing. I'll never have to do that again.
Thanks, Mykell, for your comment on When the Buck Stops. I was hoping the story part of it would appeal to the judge, thriller novelist Brad Meltzer (with whom I was unfamiliar), but who picked a story -- a beautiful, artfully crafted piece -- about a dying man who thought he was "President Agnew", as told by his loving son. I had hoped recognition by Meltzer might interest an agent or two to look me up. I have no way of knowing if Meltzer even saw my story, as it was one of about 4,000 entries that were initially screened by students in graduate writing programs. Were I able to interest anyone in the traditional publishing industry I'd be happy to drop what I'm working on now and pursue Buck Stops as a novel. But I'm well into the sequel to "Sacrifice" and intend to keep that momentum going unless something else comes up. Thanks much for your kind words.
I appreciate your kind words for Doubting Thomas. It was mostly whimsy that let me to do the parody, altho Dylan Thomas's engaging poem, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, has seemed more and more off the mark reasonably the older I've gotten.
Thanks for the nice words on "Yogurt." I think you might have had some fun with it, and that's all it was for. I have no idea what got into me last night when I wrote it. I'll be looking for more from you.
Hi John, thanks for reading and commenting on my bike story - I really appreciate that. You seemed to get the story just the way I meant it, nice when that happens. fos.
Thanks, J. Myk, for the comments and fave on The Second Sun! I played w tense a lot during revision, and ultimately the switch at the end was a choice made by ear. As in, I liked the sound of it when read aloud. However, this isn't a cafe. Think adjusting the story to full past tense would befit it?
Thanks for your comment on "The Anniversary." When I have more coherent text, I may have to run Kevin's sections by you for genuin-ification, because one third of the book is told in Kevin's voice; however, I safely make it his voice as he writes to a woman, because that's something I know about...how men present themselves to women. What they really think? I wouldn't know and would have to rely on all of your gender-mates' written words.
Thank you, J. Mykell, for your comment on "New Song of Innocence and Experience." A Kindle is, per my husband (and he should know) "an ebook reader, library, newstand, movie theater, alarm clock, music console, gaming device, and whatever else you want it to be, all in a few inches of electronics mechanism that's smaller than your average paperback." I admire from a safe distance, having given my heart irrevocably to paper books for many more years now than many people currently in existence have been a live. Talk about proudly old-fashioned . . .
J. Mykell - Thanks so much for taking the time to read and offer a comment on Conversation at a Lunch Counter. I could almost feel my arteries hardening as I wrote this. The vegan diet sounds eminently more civilized and healthy! I'll be back later today to dive into your library!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment on Odd Man Out! Gratitude and appreciation. You are right - nearly every word is true - except that I tweaked it from the Vietnam era to the present!
Thanks for reading "Escape Literature." One day I may just post my very old story "Hamlet and Juliet" (which, in current literature would more or less amount to Norman Mailer meets Georgette Heyer).
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my story and comment on it. I am also grateful for and appreciative of your input and excellent suggestions!
Thanx for the comment. I actually know somebody who did pedicab in Detroit. He worked Tigers games. I hear there's sort of a resurgence in the area. I'd probably consider pedicabbing in Detroit over pedicabbing in Chicago, though I continue to pedicab in Chicago.
wonderful observations in your comment on "<a href="http://www.fictionaut.com/stories/marcus-speh/the-serious-writer-occupies-wall-street">the serious writer occupies wall street</a>", thank you. i am guilty of placing the events in said context. any confrontation like the one we're witnessing right now, between the power and the people, has the potential to turn ugly. keeping historical memories alive as a warning is a noble task of modern germans—even if they are possibly too strong. in the current situation, both government and governed are tense but personally, i'm very optimistic. pills are crutches.
thank you for reading JMC and for commenting. your idea about the villains growing old together in a cage: wonderful. i'd love to see that written up...cheers from berlin!
Thanks, J. Mykell. Yes, the Tigers make an interesting story. This one is true; I've got another one that is not so much. Don't know if I'll post it, though. Don't want get into trouble with the ghost of Madame Chaing.
Thanks for the star for "World of Hurt," Mykell. Wish I'd had your luck. Of course, you probably have more sense than to run out onto a rain-slick deck.
John, I smiled when I saw you drew comparison between We All Have Wings and Stepping on Snails :) Thanks for taking the time to read and leave a comments - means lots to me. fos.
Glad you liked "Twister," J. Mykell. Yes, living in the Upper Midwest could be an adventure at times. Saw one twister up close & personal; don't want to get that close again.
JMC: Thank you for your kind words about "The Lost Boy." I hope I am a good teacher. I know I am a lucky human being to have such interesting students.
Thanks, J, for your comment on "Lettie in the Ozarks." I agree that we could be headed that way again. This time, though, people will probably be leaving CA instead of coming to it!
Hi John, thanks for reading and commenting on The Pretenders, I really appreciate you taking the time. Yes, we're all pretending, to some degree, all the time. fos.
J. Mykell, Thank you for your very, very insightful comments about "The Wooden City." It is indeed a miracle what language can do sometimes. Me? I just play around. The words do all the work!
Hi J, you are too kind! So glad you enjoyed the excursion into "Madeline"-land. Thank you for your support and continuing to keep pace with me on this little journey:)I.
Thanks for commenting on "Don't Grieve for Fish," J., and thanks for the star. It's funny, long before I started writing I was a textile designer. I guess my background emerged in this poem.
Great comment on "Bogdan"! Thanks, John.
"Why didn't he ask Bogdan to help him with his dying dad first?"
Yes, exactly. First we think of and take care of ourselves. Others are an afterthought.
Hi John, sorry I'm so late with this, but maybe better late than not at all. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on Cactus - I really appreciate both! fos.
gosh, JMC, it took me AGES to get to the bottom of all the comments of this wall—and i'm not surprised, because yr comments are generous & to the point. i suppose swallows brought the apparent ease with themselves. this piece began as an experiment with repetitive phrase structures...and ended up elsewhere. thank you!
Thanks for your support, J. Mykell. I'd be tempted to change the ending of my bike story; I respect Bill's opinion. You hit the nail on the head. It's a matter of "viewpoint." It's a character speaking at the end and not the author.
Hi J.! Thanks so much for your comment and suggestion to Early Summer. I think I considered what you suggest a long time ago, but the idea vanished before I could test it out. I forgot to play, and it grew maybe overly serious.
Thank you so much for you lovely words on The Lake Husband, and for the fave. It is part of a novel in progress, but one that I have temporarily halted work on while I revise a novel I completed a while back. Be back soon. Miss reading your work!
John, thanks for what you wrote on Idiotsky. Am hoping to mount this as a theatre piece (expanded, of course). Chekhov just knocks me out. I saw his play The Seagull on b'way a few years ago and it was mesmerizing.
John what you wrote about "afternoon" was really lovely, I appreciate so much, and you nailed my favorite part at the end about the dog. Hope you're having a nice summer! susan
Thank you, J. Mykell, for your reading and commenting on The Devil's Advocate. I hope the pendulum will swing indeed, but I'm not convinced it's just an economic issue (unless everything is an economic issue, which it may very well be--what do I know?)
Thank you so much for the nice comment on A June Defection! I'm glad to hear you liked it. I was worried I overdid the adjectives, but then I thought I could allow myself one adjective-heavy story. :)
No worries about missing a comment! :) I love it when the cats jump like that too. They must think our sudden bursts of laughter is strange and odd-looking.
Thanks for your comments on Mothering in Real Time, J. Yes. I hear you. All women are not the same. I can think of several I would not want leading the way. But, even including them, more representation in seats of power diversifies the pov!
J, thanks for your comments about 'Bukowski'. Always looking to be spare and succinct, and wrote this one after watching a Buk documentary- So it's good to hear your take about some Buk rubbing off. Much appreciated.
-Oh, and your profile comment, 'I write despite not being too bright'? Not my business, but two (probably contradictory) responses- (1) I'd cut that, it's obviously not the case, and (2) Yeah, me too :)
And we need more protest J Mykell! Please join me in writing a poem for Liu Xiaobo. Thanks for your comments on "Feng the chef realizes China's not buying salmon from Norway".
"pithy poem"--thanks for clarifying! I was wondering!
Re: "clues." What have you been looking up? The madness of marriage is each partner seeing the other as a Galatea capable of being shaped. The film "Mad Love" is about grafting.
I haven't clocked in for so long I neglected to see--or thank--you for your gracious comments on Looking For Olivia. Said remarks and tips were of much use to me. Thank you.
Thanks for faving "The Truth Will Out"! Not sure it deserves it, but much appreciated anyway. The back story--yes! Love to know that myself. Did discover the email came from Nigeria.
Thanks for your comment on my birds 'n cats story. I know. I leave out kibble for the skunks, too. Wish the owls would stop leaving their calling cards on the back deck.
I'm sorry this thank you is so belated, but I want you to know how much I appreciate your generous remarks on my piece what I wanted in 1968. They meant, and mean, a lot to me. - Meg
Thanks for your comments on Home Invasion (Johnny Dangerously) which I renamed Hello Kitty.
I will not republish with the new title to save you re-reading saying to yourself,” haven’t I already read this damn thing? Like some stupid Tom Clancy paperback in the airport where they changed the cover causing you to get halfway to St. Louis before you realize you’ve already read it.
LS
you made my day! thanks for the generousness re: the Adam & Eve story. I just now see that you're a Detroit man...have some great memories of times thereandabouts during my years in Ann Arbor...you a Tigers fan?
Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my 19__. I appreciate your comments about the narrator's age - child writing can be tricky, so it's good to hear.
Thank you, J. for the fave and the comments on "A heart that is not broken..." When it takes a long time to get down to the bottom of someone's comment wall, you know that those people are wonderful boosters of the work of others. Yours is longer than most. It's telling.
My daughter and I found a Luna moth cocoon years ago. Big fat strong thing with its own beauty.
(but then, I'm the kind of guy who collects dead insects, spray-paints them and arranges them old wasp nests. Once I sprayed about 30 wasps crawling on a flat nest. The next day I saw they were still on it, so I sprayed the whole thing with gold paint.)
Left it on the mantel and forgot about it until one night there was suddenly a HUGE luna moth flying around the house.
Absolutely gorgeous. Would have been great to watch it coming out, drying wings, etc.
I'm happy you enjoyed "Buckaroo". I'm in love with Fights with Earth, too. Really. She's the only character I've ever fallen in love with. It's sort of strange and sick, I think. Oh, well. Thanks for reading.
you're welcome! new story: great! - indeed, i hold a ph.d. in theoretical particle physics. that's essentially slightly more grounded higher mathematics, very much like music actually. ex: even the title of my dissertation is a mystery to me today. i burnt out on science when i was young. the passion of writing saved the man.
just read your "fifty-five words or less" again and enjoyed it, again. i'm such a sucker for minimalism especially because i can't really do it myself. cheerio!
JMC, thank you for your generous comments on my interdenominational story “The Boy who killed Christ.” Much appreciated! Wishing you a serene holiday season, Frank.
Thanks very much for the comment and fave on Heart Line. I appreciate the read, and I'm happy you caught that some dogs, like people, are just special.
Hi J, thanks for the feedback and love the fact that you went back and read "From HCMC with Love". Been off Fictionaut for a while but looking forward to catching up on your latest. Best, I.
John, thank you kindly, good sir, for your lovely comment about my packing sentences well in Unpacking Sentences, and for the fav. You are a kind and generous reader!
Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback on Tomorrowland. I really enjoyed your note -- it's so cool to learn how you read it, and what worked for you.
Hi J. Thank you for the heartfelt and wise thoughts. I share your sentiments and really appreciate the value you seem to sense in this character and this piece of writing overall. So glad to have you as a commentator. Best, I.
JMC,
Thank you for your incisive comments and wonderful compliments on Redux - Things I Should Have Done #4 - now called Heartbreak Waiting to Happen. I am thrilled it is fresh on multiple readings and that the form works well! And thanks for the fave!
Thank you for reading Sometimes Its Hard to Forgive and for the title suggestion. Also, thank you for the grammar suggestion. I've seen "asked" in published stories, so maybe it is editor's choice.
Thank you for reading The Dancing Lady. I've received so many great suggestions for this story. Thank you for sharing yours. I'll work on it a little more.
Hi J! Thanks for reading and commenting on Egypt... I'm pretty new to Fictionaut so I'm just catching on to seeing comments and replying, but I love interacting with other writers, so your comment means a lot!
JMC,
Happy sad end of summer! I feel I have been gone a lifetime. Thank you for your lovely comments about Sisters At The Lake. It is so gratifying when one's work resonates for others! And thank you for the fave. I have much reading to catch up on here at fictionaut!
Thanks, J. for your comments on the latest chapter of my novel. I haven't read or commented on anyone's work for ages. So I'm looking forward to checking out your latest.
You are welcome for my comments, J. I like your writing. Yep, I married at 17, 48.5 years when she passed in 2000; interestingly it was the 49th anniversary of when "I saw her standing there." Martin
Thanks, JM, for the comment on Between. Much appreciate the read! I started reading a longer piece of yours a while back, got stuck with other projects... looking forward to returning here soon.
JMC, thank you so much for reading, commenting and the fav on In The Lake. So glad that they ending worked for you. I am actually moving forward with the story, past this initial piece!
Thanks for your comment on Upstream. I saw a wonderful documentary on Detroit recently. Heartbreaking really. Good point that even when 'home' hasn't changed, we do.
J., I really appreciate the kind read of "Foundlng." I have printed out your longer piece to read when I have a quieter house. I'm always kind of excited to see longer stories posted here! Thanks again.
Thank you so much for your comments about Requirement. Thanks too for the words on my wall! I’m thrilled you like Star Anise and Miss – they’re my favorites too of what I have up here, so I’m so pleased you said that. You’ll have to let me know if you post more of the Private Security piece. I’m looking forward to reading more of it.
Thanks, JMC, for the comment on A Night of Not Knowing. I appreciate all the support for writing non-fiction too, which is sometimes harder but oh so rewarding, too.
Thank you for reading and commenting on "fire and ice". I am honored. As I am just getting started, finding my voice and all that jazz, I really do appreciate your comments, advice and suggestions.
J - thanks for the comment on New World! Your enthusiasm is much appreciated. I love the ideas there, working on the execution more, as I think it could use some real refining. Will show up here with next draft soon... as of now, I have just enough battery in an airport to send this quick hello and thank you! Will get back to more JMC stories soon!
Thank you for reading a commenting on my latest story, J. Mykell. Now that you're fiddling with the intensity of Flash, I'll get on one of yours with some concise, pithy comments (be sure you read it as "pithy").
J, it just seems like a lifetime ago - about four years. I rewrote(edited and added words) from the original before posting on here so, no, the language would not be more explicit. Thanks for your nice comments. Much appreciated.
Re Mind Games J, yes you are right.
The main problem with perpetual motion is the friction so I used it against itself and the rest yes, as Rendine says, "it's not that simple". Some of the games facts are taken from real psychology that I have gleaned over the years but I have put my own slant on them of course. The law of (perhaps still a theory?)Gravity is being questioned now with the expansion of the universe. I really love science - so fascinating. Thanks so much J. Let's watch out for cell phones you can wear on your finger! Hard to type texts and they would need to be waterproof!
Thanks, J. You really got into it didn't you. I so appreciate your comments.
Re the gold bands, I liked the fact that Rendine actually tried to chat up his own wife but, because of the Chloether, he did not remember.
I'm pleased you liked the mind games portions. As far as setting the scene, working out how to explain perpetual motion was the hardest!
'Micromobs' are in reference to cell phones - we call mobiles here.
Thank you for your comments on "Hotel Chelsea" which I'm glad you liked, and of course I'm even more glad you're curious about what happens next. This thing is shaping up to be a longer work, maybe of linked New York stories. Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading and commenting on my parsley story. I am slowly converting my Amazon Shorts to Amazon DTP. It is user-friendly so you don't you make some money.
i was reading your about me. you said "ups" keep you going...and at that exact moment i was watching a film where the depressed man said, "but downs are the shit man" which seemed ironic...so i decided to tell you this.
Thank you for reading Afshan. Glad you liked it.
Your ferryboat story is hilarious. I see a story coming out of that experience. Would love to read it. Were you in the Korean War? My grandfather was. I recall you wrote a story about the war.
I have not been to China but would love to go one day, but not the large cities. I want to go up into the mountains and experience the village life.
J, yes, you understood what my poem, Weakest Link, was all about. I've always said we are only as good as our readers, and you are one of the best as well as a damn good writer. Thanks so much.
Thanks JMC for the comment on Rock On. I had a Three Dog Night tape back in high school (not an 8-track, but it nearly could've been) that I used to crank up loud during my drive to school (along with The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys). 'One' and 'I never been to Spain' and all those other hits are stuck in me good. I love writing stories around song lyrics, it's fun and perhaps silly, but as you point out, even sometimes philosophical. Thanks for the read.
Thank you for reading and commenting on TWO FOR THE ROAD; I appreciate it. I've never done a post like this, but apparently, it's the way it's done on Fictionaught. I usually just recip -- this seems like Advertisements For Myself.
J.Mykell, thanks so much for commenting on The Fall of Love. What you wrote about Charles Manson was interesting, I didn't know that there were plot-scenarios at the time...
Thanks for letting me know that "Beatnik Blonde" works on its own for you. Sometimes with this short things that are meant to go with other pieces it really is hard for me to tell.
J, I really love the way you take the time to write so much about my work. I was worried this piece may have been too long for fictionaut (I know everyone has busy lives)but your comments have dispelled this concern. Thank you so much :-)
Thanks, JMC, for your comment on From The Doctor, With Love. I appreciate it, and I'm looking forward to perusing your stories too. Nice meeting you here!
J, I love the way you take time to dissect the meaning of my work and I'm really pleased that the cover note set the poem up for you, too. Thanks, you are a wonderful writer and I feel honoured every time you comment on my stuff.
I really don't know much about Model T Fords but I wrote that in a fictive state and the 'wings forever stalled' came to me. I found out later they are on the speedometer. Weird how that happens. I do remember the one we had in our paddock, in South Australia - it was too far gone for restoration. Thanks J, for your insightful words and you live where Model T Fords are made in Detroit - wow another thing I've learned.
Okay, JMC. I posted the First Date Questionnaire. Wildly inappropriate, it's hard to believe it spurred me to write Things I Should Have Done #4. I blush, I hope you won't!
Hi Mykell. Thanks so much for reading and commenting on "I Like it This Way." I'm glad you like the story. I see you're a fan of Joyce Carol Oates. Me too, and I often look to her for inspiration.
Thank you for reading Tatev. I questioned the footnotes, too. Without them, though, I'm not sure if most people would understand the poetry project as a whole. Also, translating Tatev within the poem would be difficult. I'm hoping to add photos to this chapbook, which I hope will supplement the footnotes.
Thanks for your comments on "I will be your girlfriend, Sam Pink." I'm glad you enjoyed the piece - hoping it was as much fun to read as it was to write.
Thanks for reading an commenting on the naked man of barcelona. I've taken so long getting back to you that you may not even remember...but i appreciate the kind words.
Like the avatar, by the way. My copy of Dorian Gray has the same cover.
Thank you for commenting on Youth. Yes, indeed. We are not that bright in our youth, are we. I should have died a thousand times over. Who really knows why one lives and the other one dies?
Thank you for commenting on Leaves of Yesterday. The "faithful" can be anyone, any religion. As long as one believes and lives with love toward all others, then I believe one has done all that is required of them.
Hello there, thank you for reading and commenting on In the Path of Mary. I appreciate it more than you know. And as another existentialist of sorts, I have added The Tragedy of Existence to my list of things to do.
Thanks J. for reading my work and commenting on "Watts". I started reading Nell Shea a while back and said let me get back to this one when I am not hurried. Will take a look.
Fish Eye: All really interesting and wise thoughts to ponder, the similarities and differences of skill-building and sustaining in all these arenas. Earlier in life I was a painter and found that taking breaks and just looking for awhile improved my work more than constant practice. There also may be stages in the development of an art or skill requiring more or less "doing."
Thanks for your comment on Life's Meaning.
Spring Fever: Thanks for your comment, J.
Thanks for the funny comment on Amends.
Thanks for the comment on Obama. It's not as crazy as it sounds. Obama has a website for writing him email letters, as do all the Congressmen. I see it as my civic duty at the very least.
J. Mykell, your response to Black Bombers made me picture Chill Wills in Dr Strangelove. Thanks for both the response and the synaptic leap.
Mykell, if I'd have thought he could I'd have left out two of the first three sentences. ;-)
Thanks, Mykell, for the kind words for Shout to the Dead.
Glad you liked Holiday Newsletter. It's really so humiliating compared to everyone else's great lives.
I loved your interpretation of A Cozy Battle Station. Thanks so much.
Thank you for your empathy for poor Ziggy in False Alarm.
I loved your comment to Light.
J. Mykell, thanks very much for your generous reading of Tics.
Thanks for your funny comment on Maginot Line.
Thanks, J. Mykell, for reading and responding to The Horror.
Thanks so much for reading and continuing to comment on my work, J.:)
Thanks J. for your comments on Aerospace. Yes, long story short. About all I have time for...
Mykell, thanks for sticking with Hemingway Test! You're about to move ahead of me on chapter count, as I've been tied up rewriting Sacrifice for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest. Posted my entry this morning.
Thanks for your comment on Hagaddah.
What a pleasure to hear from you, J. I am so glad you liked "The Swiss Lunch".
Thank you, J. Mykell, for your very generous response to "Linear A".
Thanks for your Forgiveness comment.
Thanks for your sweet comment on Perspective. The "touch" comes and goes.
EXCELLENT make or break commment.
Happy you enjoyed my Conversation.
Thank you so much for your wise comment on Attachment.
Thank you so much for your wise comment on Attachment.
Thanks for your kind comment on Thunderstorms.
Thanks for reading Eight States Away...again! I appreciate your time and comments.
NINE: I basically wrote this as is in my head when I was nine.
Thank you for your kind words regarding "Adagio".
Mykell, so happy you're following Hemingway Test. Your discerning comments are inspiring.
Thanks for your comment on Turning Tricks. It takes so long to get to the bottom of your list there's time for at least two or three more tricks. That's why I just switched to messages. It's not easy having a fan club.
Appreciate you taking the time J.
Thanks JMC for your kind words on Pastoral Hide & Seek!
Thank you for your stunning comment and fave on my piece "Sending kisses".
I know. I would have loved to teach the class too. I probably should have described how up-tight he was.
Thank you for your comment on my poem "Regret". The stellar praise is very much appreciated. Laughter and sunshine are indeed vital ingredients in the broth of life.
Thanks for EX!
Thank you for a jewel of a comment.
Thank you for writing about "Milly" and being nice.
Thank you for your insightful response to Crime and Punishment.
Gas Chamber: very validating that those passages reflected your own thought growing up in the Irish Catholic church.
Bathroom: Love your comments
Mykell ~ Thanks for sticking with Hemingway Test. I'm happy that it still works for you. As to the "cat-clinker", I actually read that account in a news item some years ago. It wasn't really a cat, of course, but it reminded me of some of the oddly shaped chunks of dross in the ashes I'd remove from our coal-burning furnace as a yout'.
Hi John, huge thanks for commenting on a bar for all occasions. Thanks for reading! fos.
Thanks for your comment on No Sanctuary.
Thanks for your comment on Lifetime.
Re: Mall. I feel that way almost all the time.
Thanks for your read and comments on "Mountain", J. MC!
Re: Aflame I can't tell you how many children I've met like this.
Thanks, Mykell for reading "Belt." Not exactly the world I grew up in but the world I inherited through family stories and memories.
Thanks for the soup.
Thank you for your detailed and generous comment on Sitting Shiva.
Thanks for your incisive comment on Mimsy.
Thanks for the read and comment on "Casual Violence." Just needed to get that out.
Thanks for the Matchmaker comment.
Thank you again, for your comment about Sudden Melancholy, J.Mykell. You gave me a boost! Nonnie
Thanks JMC!
Thanks for Beam. I love the dog Chloe too.
I'm flattered by your enthusiastic comment about Hypochondriasis.
Thanks for your hopeful comment about Hair. I wish.
If I didn't laugh about Orwellian meetings, I would cry.
Mykell, I appreciate your following my serial, "Sacrifice", and the kind words you've left in comments.
Thanks for reading and commenting on "Muddy Creek." And the fav.
Thanks so much for your interesting comment on Tribe.
Thanks from the Running Accountant.
re: Saratoga grief. The key is educating children to question authority and think for themselves. Where the hell is that happening?
Thanks for reading and your generous comment on Embroidery. Much appreciated. Looking forward to reading more of your work around here!
Thank you for reading and commenting on "All is Ready." Truly appreciated. Nonnie
I appreciate your kind words for Doubting Thomas. It was mostly whimsy that let me to do the parody, altho Dylan Thomas's engaging poem, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, has seemed more and more off the mark reasonably the older I've gotten.
Thanks for reading Dog Days. Thanks for commenting, too. Really, thanks for both! fos.

Thanks for the words. Glad someone knows the magnetic force! :)
On second thought, I'll answer my own question: I think it does befit it. Thanks again so much for the thoughtful read!
Thanks, J. Myk, for the comments and fave on The Second Sun! I played w tense a lot during revision, and ultimately the switch at the end was a choice made by ear. As in, I liked the sound of it when read aloud. However, this isn't a cafe. Think adjusting the story to full past tense would befit it?
So appreciate your thoughtful reading & comments on "The Breakfast Tree."
Thanks for the comment on my Eve piece!
Thanks ever so much for reading "Immiscibility" and for your kind and thoughtful comments. Very, very appreciated.
Wonderful comment on "Babble," John! Thank you!
"Rome Ants in the Sky"

Hi JMC, thanks for commenting on "Salmon of Wisdom" - GL
Thank you, J. Mykell, for your comment on "New Song of Innocence and Experience." A Kindle is, per my husband (and he should know) "an ebook reader, library, newstand, movie theater, alarm clock, music console, gaming device, and whatever else you want it to be, all in a few inches of electronics mechanism that's smaller than your average paperback." I admire from a safe distance, having given my heart irrevocably to paper books for many more years now than many people currently in existence have been a live. Talk about proudly old-fashioned . . .
Thanks for reading The Burka and for your words.

JMC: Thank you for your response to my Lennon tribute. It made my day.

J - many thanks for the read and comments on "Cloudy..." Appreciate very much.

Thanks, J. Mykell. I read the newspaper & think: if it weren't so sad, it would be funny. Not a lot of laughs, I'm afraid.
John, really appreciate your kind words and fav for "Baby, Baby..." Thanks!

JMC, thanks so much for reading Tree Car Crash. And for the kind words.
gosh, JMC, it took me AGES to get to the bottom of all the comments of this wall—and i'm not surprised, because yr comments are generous & to the point. i suppose swallows brought the apparent ease with themselves. this piece began as an experiment with repetitive phrase structures...and ended up elsewhere. thank you!
Thank you for the comment and fave on 'fiction ought' - much appreciated!
Thanks for your support, J. Mykell. I'd be tempted to change the ending of my bike story; I respect Bill's opinion. You hit the nail on the head. It's a matter of "viewpoint." It's a character speaking at the end and not the author.
JMC: Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my poem, "The Rest Home." Yes, it is why we learn to dance...
Hey, J. Mykell, Helluva good idea. I think I'll get a car without tires. Park it in the driveway. No more paying four bucks for gas!
Hi J.! Thanks so much for your comment and suggestion to Early Summer. I think I considered what you suggest a long time ago, but the idea vanished before I could test it out. I forgot to play, and it grew maybe overly serious.

"Even the livestock have lawyers?"

I will not republish with the new title to save you re-reading saying to yourself,” haven’t I already read this damn thing? Like some stupid Tom Clancy paperback in the airport where they changed the cover causing you to get halfway to St. Louis before you realize you’ve already read it.
LS

John, another great comment! Thanks for reading and faving "George." Perhaps we've all worked with George.

Thanks for your comment on "Chelsea 4"!
Thanks for the comment and the fav on School for Clowns. I just loved that writing prompt!
Thanks for your comments on "Chelsea 3" and the fav!
Stay tuned!

Thanks again JMC! Appreciate the second comment!
J. Mykell, thanks again for your comments on Who Sent You? I still get the chills when I hear Janis perform

Thank you for coming to read Peach, twice! I really appreciate your comments. It's a touchy subject in shades of grey...
Indeed. Five bucks a day in 1960. Wonder what it costs now?

JMC,
What can I say? I got captured a ways back! I love reading how your writing is morphing!

Thanks, J, for your kind comments about "Dis-Ease."
J. -
Thanks for your comments on "I will be your girlfriend, Sam Pink." I'm glad you enjoyed the piece - hoping it was as much fun to read as it was to write.
