    • About Me

    I am a short story writer and poet living in the north of England. I am the author of three story collections: Some Of Us Glow More Than Others (Unthank Books, 2017) My Mother Was An Upright Piano: Fictions (Tangent Books, 2012), and The White Road and Other Stories (Salt, 2008; commended, 2009 Orange Award for New Writers), and two books of poetry: Terms and Conditions (Nine Arches Press, 2017) and Nothing Here is Wild, Everything is Open (Southword, 2016).

    My short stories and poetry have been widely published in print and online and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4. My poems won 3rd prize in the 2014 Ruskin Poetry Prize and have been published in Magma, Obsessed with Pipework, Butcher's Dog, Poems in Which, Poem magazine, Amaryllis, and Ink, Sweat & Tears.

    I am curator of ShortStops (www.shortstops.info), celebrating short story activity across the UK & Ireland, a Royal Literary Fund fellow, I have a PhD in Creative Writing inspired by particle physics, from Bath Spa University.
