Don't judge me for starting off with Ernest Hemingway. Also: Jack Kerouac, Robertson Davies, E.L. Doctorow, John Dos Passos, Ethan Canin, Janet Malcolm, Paul Auster, Haruki Murakami, Victor Hugo, Henry James, John McPhee.
I don't know that I've ever read a book as good as E.L. Doctorow's RAGTIME, or that I ever will. Some other books that I admire: Dos Passos' U.S.A., Jack Kerouac's BIG SUR, Walt Whitman's LEAVES OF GRASS, Henry James' THE AMERICAN, Jack London's MARTIN EDEN and Murakami's memoir WHAT I TALK ABOUT WHEN I TALK ABOUT RUNNING.
Thanks for checking in with my stuff Fred! It looks like I have been busy writing but actually I have been emptying out my stockpile of writings and now have an empty slate to start writing new things hopefully.
Yeah, I finally made my way and am dipping the old toe in ...
