Why do you write?

I write spastically, when ideas arrive. Sometimes they don't for a while. I write when I can, which is usually lunchtime at work. I write mostly because I love it. I need to.

Any favorite authors? Books?

In no particular order: George Saunders, Aimee Bender, David Foster Wallace, Ayn Rand, Tim O'Brien, Cormac McCarthy, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Charles Dickens, Phillip K. Dick, Franz Kafka, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway, JRR Tolkien, Neruda, Alice Munro. On the indie front, I like Blake Butler, JA Tyler, Jensen Beach, Terese Svoboda, xTx, Amber Sparks, Roxane Gay, Shane Jones, Ethel Rohan, Rae Bryant, Gabriel Blackwell, Steve Himmer, Ben Loory, Matt Bell and dozens of others.
