About Me

Karen Eileen Sikola received her M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction from California State University, Fresno. She now lives in Boston, where she works in publishing and conducts the lit-blog TrainWrite. Her nonfiction has appeared or is forthcoming in several online journals, including Front Porch, Monkeybicycle, Wufniks, Pure Slush, fwriction:review, Used Furniture Review, and Specter Literary Magazine.

Why do you write?

People and blank pages, of which there seems to be an endless supply of both.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Forever favorite: Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. I own (and cherish) a first printing.

New favorite: Patti Smith's Just Kids. I devoured it.

Enjoyed the piece at Pure Slush - "We sat in silence, the entire train, the few other passengers in anxious wait to see if I would change my mind. We all flipped pages, glanced up at each other, looked away when noticed."

Nice work.
