    John Minichillo's debut novel, The Snow Whale, a contemporary retelling of Moby-Dick will be released on Atticus Books July 30, 2011.

    He is the recipient of a 2011 Tennessee Artists Grant for Literature.

    His short work appears widely on the web.

    He lives and teaches in Tennessee and he's married to fellow Fictionaut, Katrina Gray.

    Why do you write?

    Like a lot of writers, I started writing because I loved to read. I was fascinated with what the better writers among us could achieve, and I wanted to be one of them.

    I was completely caught up in it. You have an interesting approach to narrative, which I found refreshing -- and all those details, at once utterly familiar became alien through your filter. that garish orange thong, how it came to represent (for me at least) the essence of it all, was really cool.
