    • About Me

    I am the editor of Monkeybicycle (http://www.monkeybicycle.net), a small literary journal and Web site that has been around for almost seven years. I am also the art director at Dzanc Books, an incredible nonprofit publishing company out of Michigan.

    Why do you write?

    I think I just like the idea of creating things and bringing them into the world. I guess my projects are kind of like babies in that sense. But every time I see some kind of art--be it a short story, a painting, a song, whatever--I am inspired by knowledge that it didn't always exist and that someone had to work hard to make it live. I want to work as hard as I can to give life to as many new things as possible.

    Any favorite authors? Books?

    There are a lot of them, for sure. I'd say a few of the big ones are Dave Eggers, Kurt Vonnegut, Herman Hesse, Rumi, Kerouac, Gary Snyder, Yukio Mishima, Aimee Bender, Peter Markus, Matt Bell, Laura van den Berg, Chip Kidd (as both designer and author), David Foster Wallace, Shya Scanlon, Denis Johnson, and the list goes on.
