"Jokes by Brian Beatty" is a regular feature at McSweeney's Internet Tendency and in the pages of METRO, a Twin Cities lifestyle monthly.

My humor pieces, poems and stories have appeared in numerous print and online publications, including Alba, Conduit, elimae, Forklift Ohio, Gulf Coast, Hobart, Monkeybicycle, The Noo Journal, Opium, Phoebe, The Quarterly, The Rake, Rhino, Sand, Seventeen and Yankee Pot Roast.

Why do you write?

I like corduroy -- and eating.

Donald Barthelme, Barry Hannah, Flannery O'Connor, Terry Southern, Jonathan Carroll, Ishmael Reed and J.P. Donleavy are among my favorite fiction writers. Poetry-wise, I enjoy Norman Dubie, Matthew Rohrer, Wallace Stevens, C.D. Wright, Kevin Young and Tomaz Salamun.
