My novels A Death by the Sea, a mystery about lycanthropy in Malta, and Dr Jesus and Mr Dead, a thriller about the Black Death and a very evil man, are now available as ebooks at BN.com and Amazon. Mud Luscious published my chapbook of text and drawings Dr Polidori's Sketchbook in 2010. I am an editor with elimae and Ravenna Press, and post a lot of drawings at Flickr (username r3nn3r). I've been mostly away from Fictionaut for a good while and am glad to be easing back in.
What prompts a poem or story? A nugget of language or idea that seizes me is often the germ. My longer fiction is very much plot/story oriented: I like to narrate action. Right now I'm working on a novel loosely inspired by the epic of Gilgamesh, set in El Paso, Texas, and intended for teenagers.
Yeats. Trollope. Irene Nemirovsky. Joseph Roth. Hermann Hesse. Wolfgang Koeppen.

Cooper, I'm glad the ending to "gum" was not predictible, that's very good to hear and so nice of you to comment on my story! Cheers!
i like having you here! It is warming me up to do more again. thanks for your comment on Any Answers.
Hi Cooper. Long time, no speak. Hope you are doing well.
Checked out some of your sketches. Really like the one where you're holding a camera with the scream face, Three Hands. Far out!
Love the drawings, Coop!
just read your story in NY Tyrant. Wow. Love it. I think Borges would have loved it.
Hey there! No, I'm not submitting anything to you in this message!
Thanks for the comment on the story. Cool sketches!
elimae is still one of the best journals in the world. It makes so many other publications look irrelevant, archaic, and almost unreadable.
So many editors are such pathetic, shameless, weasels that it sometimes seems that they don't read anything beyond cover letters.
You should be proud of yourself, of elimae, and of the authors you've published. I hold you in the highest regard.
Sincerely, Corey Zeller
Hola, Cooper!
Howdy, ladies! Thanks for the welcome. Kate, you know my drawings? Yikes. I'll greet Texas for you.
Good to see you here, Cooper!
