As you might know, we try to keep up with member news and tweet the most interesting bits at http://twitter.com/fictionaut. If you have news of publications, readings, MacArthur Grants and so forth, drop me a line at jurgen@fictionaut.com and I'll do my best to spread the word. We're also particularly interested in success stories involving Fictionaut, so if work you first posted her gets picked up somewhere else, please make sure to let us know!
Finally, Travis Kurowski (http://www.fictionaut.com/users/travis-kurowski) asks that you send him "any notice of publications, editings, designings, and whatnot in the lit mag world" for possible inclusion in his weekly Luna Digest (http://blog.fictionaut.com/category/luna-digest/) -- and of course if you're on Twitter, you should follow him at http://twitter.com/lunaparkreview.
Thanks!
I have some news. I'll send it to you immediately.
Jurgen,
A great idea! Especially in light of Susan Tepper's separate thread that Fictionaut got a great fave (how I do love that word now, a word I rarely used before being invited to join).
I have a few success stories as a result of being active here, and as soon as I know publication date, I will post to here, and email you.
Jürgen,
My novel - for now still titled THE LEGEND OF JIMMY GOLLIHUE - is being released in July 2011 by PublishingWorks, an independent press in New Hampshire.
I've got two other pieces coming out in a literary magazine - will give you publication dates when I have them.
George
Congrats, Cherise & George!
This is a wonderful thing to do! I will send some things to you soon.
Hi, Jürgen. My story "Red Toy Soldier" just won The Smoking Poet's Short Story Contest.
Wow, Chris, Congratulations!!!
That's great, Christopher. And George. Congratulations.
My poem "Here's Looking at Euclid" appears in Magma Poetry (#47), Guest Editor Annie Freud.
My short story collection, City Paddock, has just been published and is available now at http://www.ginninderrapress.com.au/
Royalties will go to The Creswick Light Horse Troop.
City Paddock: "An eclectic collection of short stories tackling subjects as varied as psychological mind games, the effects of war on those left behind, the vagaries of heterosexual and lesbian love, self-abortion, and murder, told through characters as diverse as a retired Light Horseman, a lighthouse keeper’s wife, and an old Aboriginal man, and set in periods from the nineteenth century to the late 2020s."
Congratulations, Ms. King.
congrats, Myra!
Thanks, Matthew and Matt.
woot! Fabulous Myra ... off to peruse. Peace...
Linda, thanks :-)
I'm new but I have news!
One of my short stories, 'Simon Says' was chosen to appear in The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica Vol. 10, due out in January 2011. I'm thrilled to pieces!
Congratulations Christopher, George, Myra, and Alice!
I bought a new refrigerator!
;-)
Thanks Bill. Congrats, Alice!
Update: my story "Protagonist Unbound" appears in Metazen, 7 July 2010
Thanks, everyone!
Congratulations, Alice!
Not very big news (ahem, AT ALL) but I now have 17 pieces posted on Fictionaut... feels like a tiny little milestone to me. I love this site. :) You all are amazing.
Great story, George - enjoyed reading. And 17 pieces posted here is good stuff, Kait.
My little bit of news -- my story Second-hand Video-Cam, posted here and written in response to the 52/250 group theme 'broken camera' is getting picked up by BluePrintReview, which makes me very, very happy.
I love this site, too. And the 52/250 group in particular -- the weekly theme makes me write new, write fresh, and the desire to please my esteemed colleagues keeps me on my writing toes. Peace...
Congrats Linda!
Congrats on getting that story picked up, Linda!
"Wound Jewelry," e-book of 11 poems, on new aesthetic:
http://newaesthetic.in/e-books/e-book-wound-jewellery-by-bill-yarrow.html
Thanks.
Bill
Well done, Bill.
AGreed. Very fun/lively stuff!
Thanks, Myra and Matt. Congratulations, Linda! Great job and keep posting, Kait!
Congrats to everyone here who's work has been picked up!
And to Matt for his new refigerator!
Thanks Christian, Cherise, and Bill!
Bill, congrats so much on your PANK and new aesthetic pubs. I keep reading (and listening) to ADDICTIONS (in PANK) over and over. It has so much truth. Peace...
Just got back from Taos Writers Conference. Great place, great people...the word of the day is "great"!
The drinking issue of Matrix magazine should be out soon and I'm in it!
Thanks, Susan. My electric bill went down IMMEDIATELY. Should pay for itself in two years, by my calculations.
;-)
Seven Fictionaught writers will be featured in the Summer Edition of The Linnet's Wings, online this Sunday, July 25: http://www.thelinnetswings.net/
The writers and their stories:
NOBODY TOLD MARNI by Martha Williams
FAILURE by Susan Tepper
FIRST HUSBAND by Tiff Holland
THE HEART JAR by L Freshwater
BIRD-WATCHING by Tina Barry
SANCTUARY by Julie Innis
ABSENT BUT HERE: Six Micros by Sheldon Compton
Oh, thank you Ramon - that looks like a great issue, can't wait to see it. Congrats to everyone who's had work published.
Kait - you also have Like Birds Lit which is big news! And Matt - your news is cool.
YAY! Congrats all! Very excellent stories (and writers, of course). Bookmarked for Sunday eve lingering. Peace...
My story “Jambalaya,” which has appeared here previously, was recently published at Feathertale.
It’s been “private” here for awhile but I’ve just made it public again.
Super! I'm excited each time I hear of a friend and fellow writer's publication. It's almost--but not quite--as inspiring as reading the story they wrote.
Congratulations to the writers on their works appearing in The Linnet's Wings. That's great.
Congratulations, Christian.
This link takes me to Spring 2010 issue.
http://www.thelinnetswings.net/
Is the summer issue not available yet?
Congratulations, all! Congratulations, Christian on Feathertale pub!
Muchos congratulaziones Christian! I remember Jambalaya, and will take a new peeksy at it. Peace...
Congrats all around!
I saved two black lab puppies from being taken to the country and left to starve. Found one a good home already, and have several leads for a permanent home for the other.
Here's something a little different, I think, about a writing opportunity I just received because of a story posted here at Fictionaut. The most recent story I posted, The Devil's Inkwell, is about a girl who follows Jim Jones to Jonestown in Guyana. Fielding McGehee who writes and does research for the Jonestown site at San Diego State University http://jonestown.sdsu.edu/
read the story and contacted me, asking me to write a personal essay for the Jonestown Report about my interest in Jonestown, my experience writing this story and the article I'm working on. Such a wondrous and valuable place, Fictionaut!
My story "Back in the Shower" appears today in Metazen.
My story The Corners" appears today in A Twist of Noir.
http://a-twist-of-noir.blogspot.com/2010/08/twist-of-noir-533-jane-hammons.html
Jane, congratulations. Went there and read it immediately. Bravo.
Applause - for Jane and George. Congratulations.
Forgive the tardiness of this, I missed the chance to mention it--rather, them--the first go round:
Novelette, "The Warden" appeared in Prick of the Spindle vol. 4.1 ( March 2010.)
Story, originally on Fictionaut,
"In the Woods," appeared July 7, 2010 in Listnack.
My poem, "Failure" will be in the next print issue of Crow Toes Quarterly. Poem "The News" (about the cartoon wolf, etc.) will be in the next issue of Mississippi Crow. Story "Waves Toward Zero" has been short-listed by Blue Crow Magazine (Australia).
All previously pubbed here, all being snatched up by dem crows!
A couple of stories which were workshopped here have made their way into print-
"Parlour Games" in the upcoming echolocation, and "Radium" (complete with excellent drawings by Vicki Nerino,http://www.vickinerino.com/)
in Matrix 86.
"Lavender", a very short piece on non-fiction will appear in the September issue of Halfway Down the Stairs.
I just got my first writing job freelancing articles for a website. :)
Kudos to Jane, George, David, Matt, Carol, and Kait!
Solzhenitsyn Jukebook by Ann Bogle with cover art by Rachel Lis, edited by Jeffrey Side for Argotist Ebooks, July 27, 2010.
Dumb Luck
Fiancee
Car Talk
Solzhenitsyn Jukebox
Hoss Men
Thanks, Fictionaut readers for your comments on these stories prior to their publication.
http://www.lulu.com/product/ebook/solzhenitsyn-jukebox/12033095
Congratulations, Ann. Great cover and stories - The title story is an amazing work.
The cover artist is Rachel Lisi not Lis. I don't know why I typed Jukebook, but it caused me to look up "juke." Besides its main meaning as roadhouse (colloq.), it's slang for a few things, including "to no-show." The characters in "Dumb Luck" mention words it's similar to, i.e., con, bamboozle, gyp. Hmmm. Thanks, Sam!
Wow. So much good stuff -- congrats all! Got some reading to do. Peace...
Picture Dreams, a story originally posted on FN, will be in an upcoming Litsnack. Date TBD.
That's great, Kim. Nice piece.
I just indie published my first chapbook. It's just some poetry and very short stories but I'm happy with how it came out. :)
Thanks, Jürgen, for this. I have had a few stories picked up thanks to Fictionaut, beginning way back with my Love, Story which was published at Metazen -- one of the first pieces I posted here. Since then, this community has really opened my eyes to some amazing writing, and it's made me a better writer, for sure. Always working on it now...
Several stories of mine have been picked up from here -- a few are out now or imminent, like Bedtime Story in Gloom Cupboard and Almost There coming out in the summer edition of Blue Print Review. I'll send you an email with the full update; just wanted to say thank you here.
Nine of my microfictions from my Thinly Sliced Raw Fish collections have been published by Escape Into Life.
http://www.escapeintolife.com/fiction/microfictions-by-christian-bell/
Thanks to Mark Kerstetter for his invite to have work featured there.
My story "Heavy Lifting" is published in the current issue (#13) of HORROR BOUND.
My poem "Andalusia" (up on Fictionaut) has been nominated by Up the Staircase for a Best of the Net award.
I've just joined, so I'd like to say hi to everyone. A complete newbie at sites like this, but those interested in seeing some of my work, please add a comment, I've added the first chapter of my recently published book, 'Danny's Navel Adventure'. I look forward to getting to know you in some way over the coming months.
A year ago, my friend M.J. Nicholls and I co-wrote a bizarre story about a bi-national, transexual (and lethally dysfunctional) Christmas celebration. After receiving rejections from enough editors to populate a village in Switzerland, our baby won first prize at Strange Circle Magazine. And the story gets stranger . . .
http://imustbeoff.blogspot.com/2010/09/strange-things-happen.html
Wow, Chris, that IS strange. Sort of circled around and came back at ya. Congrats!
I just got an email this afternoon from Teen Ink Magazine saying they were going to publish my poem, "Let's Take It From the Top" in their next print issue. That was a little bit cool since I used to read that magazine in the earlier years of my high school experience. :)
Christopher, you clearly are leading an interesting and far-flung life. Just read on imustbeeoff.blog. Congrats on the first prize at Strange Circle Magazine.
And Kait, great on Teen Ink Magazine taking your poem. Many congrats!
Congratulations, fellow Fictionauts. We have a busy and talented crew here.
News for me:
A poem appearing in Liebamour's first issue is nominated for a Pushcart Prize (well, the nomination will be OFFICIAL in October, according to the editor)
I have a few story's due out in the next week or so in Necrotic Tissue, Bards and Sages Quarterly, and Metazen (with interview - thanks to Christopher Allen)
Two poems forthcoming in Silver Blade and Daily Love.
After a lull in submissions, I have seven things pending response now and I'm going to try to make that 10 by September 30th. I've been slack this summer.
My story, SOMETIMES, has been accepted for publication (ISBN) by 50 Stories For Pakistan, a charity project with all proceeds to Red Cross, Pakistan Flood Victims Relief.
Congratulations, Kait, Ramon and Paula (I was formatting your interview right before I logged on to fictionaut. Spooky.)
Amidst a swarm of rejections this week, Chicken Soup for the Soul bought another story. Maybe I should concentrate on creative non-fiction.
Hey, Susan! Yes, it all comes full circle and the circle is strange. :))
Hi, Cherise. Not always that interesting but always traveling. It's an obsession.
Congratulations everyone. I just e-mailed Jurgen all my publications since joining FN, so I hope you'll see them advertised soon.
Congrats all -- so much great news!
And Chris, I love proving all those other editors wrong! (Sadly, that does not happen often for me).
But on a happy note, I have two poems -- A ∩ B and THE LAST TIME -- up today at CAMROC PRESS REVIEW: http://www.camrocpressreview.com/2010/10/linda-simoni-wastila.html
A ∩ B ran here at fn in response to one of the 52/250 themes. The Last Time is a small poem written during this year's NaPoWriMo. The last line serves as inpsiration for another prose piece here at fn (I Should Not Have Rushed You Through The Rain). Peace...
such news, such news! big hearty congrats to all!
A slew of exciting news! Congratulations, everyone!
A long, and most wonderful thread here...congrats all you talented writer folk!
My story, "In the Woods," originally written on Fictionaut, then published in Litsnack(July 7, 2010) has been crossposted at the Blog of my alma mater, UNC-G: mfablogspot.greensboro.com. I wonder if they know it's about pedophilia ignored.
Ah how exciting, David! :)
A podcast of my novel The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed is up on Podiobooks.com More than 20 contemporary Asbury Park bands contibuted to the soundtrack. This is about as close as you can get to a rock & roll novel. If you don't like the text, listen to the music. Podiobooks.com is free and hassle-free. The url is

Matt, I thought you bought a new refrig a couple months ago. Is this a new new refrig or are you just recycling the news?
Matt, I thought you bought a new frig a couple months ago. Is this a new new frig, or are you just recycling the news?
Anyway, big congratulations!
Ignore both of the above, especially Matt, the new format just befuddled me.
Good news, Linda and Bill.

My book review, "Death,Survival, and Pity" about poet Brian Turner's new book Phantom Noise is currently featured at Connotation Press, and I have had two poems accepted for publication in a future issue of Used Furniture Review. Thank you all for making this a welcoming venue for me. This is a good place.

Fun story Julie, I muchly enjoyed it.
Thanks, Julie! Just read yours....hilarious! I would dearly love to read an entire collection of Innis stories...congrats on the pub!
