Why do you write?

To sort it all out. I mean all of it. The energies that go on in my head, the visions that pass through my body, I want to line them all up into words.

Any favorite authors? Books?

I've been loving the document called The Flushing Remonstrance for a long time now. It has a revolutionary place in American History and great meaning to me. Pride and Prejudice, of course. All of Harry Potter. Moby Dick, except the unending descriptions of all the different species of whales - ho hum... For Colored Girls by Ntozake Shange, Margaret Atwood's poems, The Year of Magical Thinking, JM Barrie's Peter Pan, Anais Nin, Yeats, Greek myths, world myths, anything about Persephone and Eurydice and tricksters and Henry IV and Hotspur...
