Why do you write?

I write to let the stories out, to explain the world around me, to know more fully what I think. And because putting the right words together is a great joy.

Any favorite authors? Books?

My favorite book is Lolita. It was the first book that absolutely humbled me and made me want to put down the pen and consider just how masterfully this writing thing can be done. I love Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou, Pat Conroy and Richard Russo and the essays of Christopher Hitchens and David Sedaris.
