She twirls her cell phone end to end. She's waiting for someone to never arrive. Stands there smirking with her border-lined hoodie and her sellout sadsack song and dance. Flip, flip. This is a lady who never got a break. This is a woman scourging the day, the snow, the the. Flip, flip. This is a person, goddamnit, not a woman. It's a person who wishes she was an individual.

* This is a vivid sketch and a powerful prose poem. The recurring "flip flip" provides tension that holds the piece together and propels it forward. I've seen this person. I've been this person. Strong work Robert.
Thanks so much, MGM! You rock.
* Scourging the day; mad at the world--I'll be over here smiling at rainbows in puddles from the leaky gas tank.
We're all different, I think I know this character.

Pithy!

Thanks Jane! ouch indeed.
Strange and wonderful.
This is cool. It reminds me of hearing that the word "woman" is a derogatory and that "lady" is preferred. So "person" here connotes an individual, someone who has made strides to be herself, a someone, a person. And yet personhood is kind of neuter or neutral or something. Accounting for her loneliness. *
Thanks, Ann!
Thanks Darryl!
I love especially the second sentence. It shows so much. *
Thanks so much, Beate!
