by Jerry Ratch
He was a Jack Russell terrier
hanging like a baby
in a carrier
strapped to my chest
He had all four legs
wrapped around me
and was licking me
with his long tongue
I asked him what his name
was, and in a real low voice
he said
Mint
but real drawn out
like this
Mi…i…i…nt
Mi…i…i…nt
and immediately I
forgot all about the rest
of life
I was too busy
with my dog
Mint

my wife's dream
I like this. Funny but kind of dark at the same time, which is a dynamic that always creates something interesting to think about. While reading it, I at first imagined how great it would be to carry my cat around like that, and then when the dog talked, I felt like something evil or sinister was about to happen, but then you just stated an obvious logical end: You'd be busy with your incredible dog from then on. Busy doing what? It doesn't really matter does it?
Eww, yuk! This makes me feel queasy! is that what you wanted?
Ahhhh... yayayah... yuk. Ha ha... brilliant.
Beautifully done, very smooth, very...creepy. In a good way. Surreal author's note.
Liked the Author's Note. The comments above are so interesting!
I love the image of a dog as baby who can love and talk and whose name is Mint.
I liked this, Jerry, very cute. Mint, what a funny name still he chose it!
Fun poem. Call it "My Wife's Dream." That deepens it.
Thanks to all!
Liked this very much, making the comparison to a child. Mint is a wonderful name.
