About Me

I have worked primarily in the area of kinetic sculpture for the last 30 years. I lived and worked in Chicago from 1977 to 1999. I currently reside in Bloomington Illinois, where I make sculpture, teach and write stories about my actual experiences.

Why do you write?

I'm trying to find some conciliatory relationship when I look at at seemingly divergent bits of information...like when I see an image, and then read/write text that tries to convince me it has the same importance as the visual image. Writing helps me do this.

So why write? There are a few reasons... Well, probably many reasons, but mostly, in writing, I guess I am trying to find a moment that is more truthful than the one before.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Authors, extremely short list: Marcel Proust, Olaf Stapledon, Christopher Alexander (an architect, also a fine writer), Jerzy Kosiński, Peter Schjeldahl (art critic/writer).

Books, even shorter: The Timeless Way of Building (Alexander), The Painted Bird (Kosiński), Star Maker (Stapledon).
