Vantage is a type of wood,
a sound knock of understanding,
that reverberation across
a snowy vista,
children sledding until
they meet with something solid
the ones that have seen
the other seasons,
let them set up the track
unless they've got
a score to settle.
Let the plow pile
up the snow
for a bank like a pool game
and there's the skill in gravity
that grating, the grind
under a plastic sled
until you meet the other side
the unwind
and sleep later.
Ah, winter.

Winter sounds, sorely missed. Florida has its swish and sway, but not the whoosh and away of my childhood winters.
Good one, but I don't miss Minnesota winters at all. *

Evocative piece Sara. Some of my friends in places like LA (for instance) think I'm out of my mind living where I do, but crazy or not, I love winter. (Just not all the time) You reaffirm this for me in this piece. *
You people are very kind. Thank you, Jake, Sam and Michael! I said I miss winter but really I miss the idea of winter.
