The Work of Beauty
by Jill Chan
I have to learn it,
the steady, persistent work
of beauty,
of surface that is not surface
but actuality,
time arriving rather than leaving,
a pause of breath,
of awe,
then envy that is not envy,
that insists on waking us
from our muddy play.
For the process of both muddy play and the work of beauty
Nicely done.
"of surface that is not surface" - Wow to this line. Good poem.
Nice catch, Jill, of that elusive play with the beauty of words: "time arriving rather than leaving,
a pause of breath,
of awe."
I think you've learned it, Jill.
Thank you W.R., Gary, Sam, Ed, and Mathew! Much appreciated.
"of surface that is not surface
but actuality"
Yes. Insightful work.
Just lovely - ideas spinning delicately into focus. *
