With his toga thrown over one shoulder
because it was so hot out
which has led to various and sundry theories
of the naked centurions riding on horses in this manner
through some unimaginable desert on a long march
or even along the banks of the Seine, before there were quays,
or the Thames on some unimaginable muggy British summer day
(there really aren't that many.)
They would have been dripping with sweat,
but the artist working with a chisel on cold stone
couldn't quite capture the huge drops
dripping down over the shoulder of his horse.
Yes.ha.
Nice!
Thank you, Steven and Matt! Much appreciated. I took one look at this statue and saw its past, and the future.
And I'm not so sure that much has happened in between.
