Authenticity in a Time of Consolidation
by Gary Hardaway
Existence owes you nothing.
Culture gives what it feels you deserve
in the cul-de-sac of your time and place.
And the body allows what it allows.
You are consequential as a stone
of equivalent mass. Go forth
and choose what isn't chosen.
Always give me something to ponder, Gary. Like the imperative of the last line. *
Thank you, Kathy.
You start out with a line that could stands alone. Well done.
Existentialism with a context. *
Relatable, solid writing.*
Thank you, Paul, Matt, and Amanda for responding.
That's a motivational kick in the backside, but just in a poetic way! *
Wonderful.**
Thank you, Neil and Emily.
"in the cul-de-sac of your time and place." **
The line Tara quotes hit me. Effective work, Gary. *
*, Gary. I really enjoy what I'll call your assessment poetry. This first line begs for a headline writ large and in bold;
"Existence owes you nothing."
Thank you, Tara, John and David.
A provocative, and deep poem (?), feels akin to those ancient Asian writers I admire, like Lao Tsu, Hafiz and slightly Rumi' ish. Nicely rendered, Gary!
Thank you, Robert.
I like "the cul-de-sac of your time and place."
Thank you, Steve.
A lesson, a lecture and a parable. Sartre meets Moses in five sentences. Nicely done. I'm not sure the last four sentences resolved the first. *
Thank you, Daniel. Termination may be the only resolution.
