by Ed Higgins
Around the poker table at midnight three zombies and a vampire gather for a game of Texas hold 'em. The vampire's skin is as blue as two-week old cottage cheese. He taps his wooden leg under the green-cloth table. One zombie has her foot in the male zombie's crotch across the table from her. The zombie named Howie has a hand under the table on her knee. The vampire can read minds. He knows the zombies are cheats.

This flash story is just up at an e-zine called Short, Fast, and Deadly @: The prose piece is a much reduced version of what was a longer unfinished poem until stumbled on their zine's guidelines noting, among other things, "Zombie-themed? Okay. But it better be damn good." Also, they only take micro prose of 420 characters or less. I liked the challenge of both.
