The contrast can be summed up in a sip.
Long burnt and bitter, country coffee never changes. It's consumed with tense smiles and ritual conversations, customs of conformity, isolation and stagnation.
Urban coffee, consumed in conversation and not, flavored and not, sweet or strong or both, is vibrant, tasting richly of ideas, growth and hope.

... bitter stramonium of hope...
our unquenchable thirst
Thanks, Mata!
"Good to the last drop." Ha - anyways, that was me being cheesy...BUT I love this Kim. Very, very nice. Poetic and memorable to me. *
I really like what you manage to say, so eloquently and so succinctly here, Kim. Strong work. *
Good writing in a small space, Kim: "Urban coffee, consumed in conversation and not, flavored and not, sweet or strong or both..."
Nice piece.
Finely ground prose suitable for the most discriminating taste. *
Thanks for the great comments!
i love this and get it so strongly. Perfect.
Thanks very much, Meg!
Like this a lot, but Kim, try the truck stop on the west edge of Fergus Falls, MN. You don't know about country coffee until you do. *
Thanks, Jack! Glad you liked it.
Sounds like it's worth a trip to Minnesota!
Good story, you got me thinking. I'm an urban native, don't know much about country life, or coffee. But I love the urban kind, freshly roasted.
I love the Urban kind, too, J! Hazelnut latte, please...
lovely alliteration -- enjoyed this contrast summed up in a sip.*
Thanks, Sara!
A really original comparison -- indeed, country coffee usually involves conversation; with a friend or even a bored waitress. On the other hand, urban coffee might be with a terrorist, a serial-killer or a Republican. *
Thanks, Ramon!
Better late than never: Good stuff! Nice turn on the more commonly voiced country nostalgia.
Thanks, Beate! Glad you liked it!
