Thanksgiving
by Gary Hardaway
The universe is not extraordinary
Despite the astro-cummulus nebulae,
The hot, bright, massive stars,
The black, black, vampiric holes,
And curving space enough to hold
A billion sentient histories,
Unless we see it, probe it,
Name it, star by star, and feel
This awful, tenuous gratitude.
Testing. Can anyone still see this?
Like the ending reversal as it reflects the title. Also, nice image/metaphor in "vampiric holes"!
Thank you, Ed.
See it. Like it. *
Happy Thanksgiving, Ed
"The universe is not extraordinary . . . unless--"
Fine sentiment well executed.
Ah, I'm glad for the "unless" part. *
Thank you, Gary, Edward, and Beate.
Harsh and necessary.

Well done.

Thank you, David, Jenny, and James.
Love this.
Thank you, Dianne.
That closing stanza is just killer, Gary. "Unless" is a powerful word and moment. Good poem.
Thank you, Sam.
