Self Portrait with Google
by Gary Hardaway
Some days, you just want
to stay at home and Google yourself
to find out who you are and what you are
because you can't remember.
Try it with and without
middle name or middle initial.
Try different keywords.
Maybe, amid the electron residue,
you will find enough of yourself
to remember your self by.
Maybe you will come to recognize
the odd, haggard figure in your mirror
I know the feeling. This is on the nosey. A+ / Fav
Yep. It's like channeling yourself sometimes, through Madame Google.
"Try different keywords", that made me smile.

"electron residue"
Great!
That's a big "maybe," Gary. Good piece.
Maybe, amid the electron residue,

Maybe*
Yup, I rather relate.
Mirrors, Google junk, drunken emails from people who think they know you... you haven't really been defined and you haven't quite arrived until Jimmy Fallon 'does' you on Late Night. Long way to go, baby, long way to go, but never give up. neverneverneverever give up. I forget why.
"to find out who you are and what you are"*
Gary, every time I read your work I clap. You write about the ordinary and obvious with the same guile as a painter who can make a chair look amazing.
The delicate comfort of the e-self. Wow. Love the levels of consciousness.*

Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful responses.
I do this. Feel recognized, stripped bare, opened up.
Yes. As though one finally officially existed. *
Busted. *
Such delighting responses.
You've only really *MADE* it if you and your avatar slip onto a second Google page ;)
Without a page on Wikipedia, no one is anyone.
