GOING NOWHERE
by Estelle Bruno
he says why don't you take that trip
you may meet the man of your dreams.
I say then I may never come back
you will have to come to me.
if you don't go he says then it will be my turn.
I reply we have known each other for twenty years
is taking turns necessary
seems we both have this itch to get away.
this itch never leaves.
I repeat we have known each other for twenty years
is taking turns necessary
when we both have this itch to get away.
Love the simplicity of this, so layered with complications. Effortless, lovely prose poem.
Fave.
Sound like they both need a good massage.
Good attention to form and phrasing, Estelle. Straight forward. I like.
I like the voice in this poem and recognize it from one of your others, "Sons of Italy". Good shot. *
Robert, so glad you heard these complications. Thanks so much.
Mykell, you got it, they both need something?
Sam, thanks for always reading my stuff, and liking it.
Ann, sometimes you readers see things the writer isn't aware of. Thanks for calling my attention to the comparison.
most modern poem (not postmodern, since the words still mean something here) that i've read in a long time. i like the simplicity which for me means elegance & the way you use repetition as a device. *
Very real - real feelings, real words. This is something people can relate to, these are things we feel all the time. Nicely put to paper. *
Why takee turns? 'pends on you're gonna leave behind when you go. Eerie, enigmatic, and well crafted. *
Foster I agree with your take on this one. Thanks so much.
Marcus, so glad you found this to be modern, elegant, wow, you made my day.
Jack do you think shes' gonna go? Loved your commet.
Very cool poem, Ms.E~ Your subtext is quite interesting...

And then, too, that devastating comfort of going nowhere. *
Thank you susan for the nice response.
Beate, glad going nowhere is comforting for you. Thanks
The itch to get away is universal and never goes away, does it?
Good poem, Estelle.
absolutely right Bill, I hear this lament constantly. Thanks for reading.
