New World
by Cami Park
What plant, her noticed light last leaves. We catalog the lime-bright generations: water, work. Car. You, a Swedish mechanic. Who will drive wild to banging storms, eat chartreuse radio dreams, cross a million little rains: mint, spring, ice, green— a lifetime back and to.
Calculations: love, wind, tax. Everything. Me and my envelope of looks; me with the furnace shades. Unfixable. You can't color the night forest with worried hands. Not you. I'm full rough ivy; a beautiful morning door. Greet me.
Some lovely imagery here. The ending exquisite: "I'm full rough ivy; a beautiful morning door. Greet me."
really wonderful, full of surprises. mixing the mundane with the sublime, love it. Calculations: love, wind, tax. Everything
Thank you, Susan and Shelagh! So glad you liked it.
The pace of this is a fire. I like that.
Sweet. Thanks, Matt.
gorgeous, but I think I said that before.
Thanks, Laura-- I don't mind hearing it. :)
this felt so good to read out loud!
So much said in so few words. GREAT.
Thank you Julie and Drew!
Yes! Luscious brevity here, Cami. I adore this.
Dripping with colour and meaning. Bursts through.
The disjointed syntax is wonderful here, Cami. " I'm full rough ivy; a beautiful morning door." That phrasing alone is worth the price of admission. Great piece to read aloud.
Really lovely, Cami. Rich texture & as Sam points out, wonderful phrasing.
Thanks, everyone! Really great feedback.
a wonderful piece, cami. spoke to me. i loved how you span geography, culture, time, nature, nurture...such a knobbly piece!
Thanks, Finnegan!
So great to read out loud. You are lovely poet.
Thank you so much, Lisa. That's wonderful to hear.
I can't follow this. I feel dumb. I'm in a novel reading phase ... and this story just confounds me. Of course, most things in Abjective confound me.
Thanks, David.
David, I came back to this several times until I was in poetry mode and found enjoyment in the language and images.
Ha, Susan, I have too. I wasn't even sure I should post it. I've loved loved loved everything Cami has posted on the naut so I kept coming back to this one and trying to figure out where I was going wrong.
Without question, the images and language are strong. I just can't keep up. I don't intend that as a slight against Cami or the story.
I used to really want to get into Abjective but as the weeks have gone on...I realized that each story I read made less and less sense to me (well I did "get" the David Peak story).
I think the novel kick I'm on is doing weird things to my head when it comes to very short fiction.
um, not just short fiction but poetry, too. of course, i've never had an "ear" for language, something else i'm wroking on. maybe this piece just smashes my head up because i can't process everything. i'll read it again out loud tonight and see if i have any more luck.
i remind myself of john heard in "big" - "i don't get it, i don't get it, i don't get it"
Thank you so much, Susan. Thanks again for your comments, David.
this is gorgeous...I'd love to hear it read aloud, Cami
Thanks, Kathy! This one might be good reading practice for me.
me and my envelopes of look. my envelope of green. all things growing and glowing here.
Thanks, Donna!
There's so much going on here and so much to admire..invention and thoughtful purpose..and letting the heart speak out of its own wonderment.
Thanks, D.P., that's great to hear.
exquisite
Thx, Gabe. :)
I was a little doubtful when I started to read; you never know, and it's hard to do this sort of thing well. But it's lovely.
Thanks, Tamie. :)
great stuff!
Thank you, Joshua!
I love this one, Cami!! Beautiful.
Thank you so much, Sharon!
A beautifully assembled tiny collage of perfect moments-in-words. Chamber music. RIP.
