beginning

time lost in darkness, a struggle in the sheets
time gained in sunlight, fragrant, warm, dizzyingly bright, life
green shoots appear over a brown mass, they reach, grow, undulating in the breeze
stars shift, clutter a clear sky
disappear behind strung-out clouds
get a shout-out from the moon
sweet sunrise, a blessing from the east
winds calm, dew lingers for hours
holding down bees in the clover
a holy wetness
cool, mingled with dust, pollen

The poem brought to mind William Carlos Williams: "No ideas, but in things". Very haiku-like. "beginning" is a wonderful cluster, and a fitting piece to dedicate to David.
