This Is Why I Write

to create

to make lies true and the truth false

to share stories

to make sense of the world

to make the sad happy and the happy sad

to make people fall in love or fall apart

because when it clicks

it is like creating universes out of legos

because I could never hit a fastball, make a touchdown, score a goal

because it feels bad not to, even when it's difficult

because I never outgrew the bedtime story

because I simply can't imagine not

I do it for every kid who's been told “you can't”

I do it to conquer the blank page

I do it to clear my head

I do it for the ones before me and the others yet to come

I do it to befriend words and watch them befriend others

I do it for fun

this is why I write
