Grasshopper
The grasshopper leaps
And bounds through the green meadow
Fleeing from it's foe
Centipede
Hundred-legged shape
Slithers across the pavement
Searching for it's prey
Hercules Beetle
The mythical bug
Fights an advancing beetle
Vying for females
Walking Stick
The long, thin insect
Moves not one muscle, blending in
Perfectly hidden
Ant
Farm sits on the sill
The kid stares at each small speck
Watching every move
Spider
The Black Widow bites
Sinking it's fangs deep into
The dieing insect
Scorpion
The brown stinger curls
Ready to envenom the prey
Sitting and waiting
June bug
The black round orb crawls
Through the grass in the dark night
A journey to the light
Lady bug
The small spotted bug
Sits on a blade of tall grass
Soaking in the rays
Bee
The hive works as one
Pollinating and building
Living for the queen

A collection of haikus that I did for my insect class. The assignment was anything insect related and this is the result: short and simple poems. Inspired by nature.
"Ant" is my favorite. I'd play with the word order and choice in some of these, e.g.,
Moves not one muscle, perfect
blending in
Haiku is more or less the art of saying the unsaid.
Ok thanks, I'll take that into account next time. Most of the time I get too hung up on the syllables and just use whatever instantly comes to mind and less about word choice so I'll try to fix that. Have you read the haikus in my other works?
