Space Program
by Gary Hardaway
Mercury and Gemini disappointed.
Where were the sleek silver ships
capable of launching and landing
as they flew to Mars and Venus in hours?
What did I know of orbital mechanics,
thrust, escape velocities, and life support?
The actual craft- ungainly and slow-
never measured up to a boy's dreams.
The logistics of space and our survival there
are daunting, more fully understood.
Understanding, though, cannot assuage
the boy's abiding sense of loss.
Ah, that last sentence!
Thank you, Matt.
"never measured up to a boy's dreams."
Very nice.
Thank you, Erika.
Yup, the last sentence. *
Thank you, Rachna.
We must dream our spaceships!*
Thank you, Tim.
I always wondered why if we went into space our rockets couldn't travel at the speed of light. No loss for me, just disappointment a the slow crawl of progress. *
Always was in awe of space travel...wanna go...
Thank you, Daniel.
Thank you, Kitty.
Thanks, Sam.
