Metastasis
by Gary Hardaway
Touch my name with the cursor
and watch me scatter. My electrons
scamper across the grid
that is our proof of life.
I am eternal
as long as the power holds
among the proliferation
of half-truths and general misinformation.
I am numberless attributes
I can neither claim nor disavow.
I am legion.
Strong opening. Frightening in a deep sense, Gary -
"as long as the power holds
among the proliferation
of half-truths and general misinformation."
The direct phrasing that closes this piece works well. Good writing.
"I am numberless attributes
I can neither claim nor disavow."
Unsettling.
I am eternal
as long as the power holds.
Me too.
nice.
"I am eternal
as long as the power holds
among the proliferation
of half-truths and general misinformation."
Excellent and thought-provoking. *
"I am legion." Super (I never use that word, but it is) poem.
I can relate. *
Fave, Gary. You could make good poetry about repairing a lawn mower..
Powerful.
We are legion.
eternal. *
love song for the digital age
Provocative work. Especially: "I am eternal/as long as the power holds/among the proliferation/
of half-truths and general misinformation."
Thanks to all for generous commentary. I am grateful.
I like the title especially--my gut tells me that 'going viral' isn't quite the eternity that artists in previous ages yearned for when they used their opening lines to invoke the muses, but then again I just don't know. Proof of life is proof of life, and I guess that metastasis of one's self from the temporal body to an undying work is the artistic pursuit. *
