Impressionist Modern
by Michael J. Solender
I'd never seen a dead person before, let alone one that was living just
seconds earlier. My point blank shot to his face sprayed his beloved Picasso with bits of cranial bone and brains. The end result offered an unplanned, but pleasing outcome.
I was trying to determine how I'd tell Myra that I was not likely to make it
for the weekend. I called her making up crap about deadlines and how the
project was flailing. Sighing, she understood and made me promise I'd be at her opening.
"Of course I will, Sweetie," I lied.
I hung up and called the cops.
oh-oh. great title for a piece straight out of an unpublished omnipresent collection of nightmares. the simple scene and the art historical associations playing ping pong in my head now.
Nice image with impressionism blended with murder.
Fantastically enigmatic final line, Michael. Is he handing himself in, or is he about to have it away on his toes? Love the physcicality of the piece merging with the Picasso overlaid with 'bits of bone and brains'.
Brilliant stuff, Michael. Muchly enjoyed.
The mixing of elements, the contrasts, and especially insincere niceties with wife in the wake of a secret and violent act was a lot to accomplish in a short space. Effective. *
