The Solipsist Suffers
by Gary Hardaway
Past my furthest fingertip
I can confirm nothing
but impressions of the world
that appear beyond my
body's reach. I cannot trust
the curvature of Earth
that shows in photographs
unless I touch it. I think
the photographs exist
only to perplex me. The pain
of this perplexity is all
that I can know as real.
This builds an escape-proof prison for itself.
The mind--a universe unto itself.*
Yup.*
Nice... I can't help thinking this would be the expression of an articulate Tea Partier.... Wait a minute, that's an oxymoron. Never mind. Carol and Gary said it well.
Ya gotta have faith. *
Thank you, Carol, Gary, Amanda, Steve, and Jake for your responses.
No Chris Columbus, this solipsist, and yet his perplexic sic) pain just might propel him to take that existential leap. *
Thanks, everyone, for reading and commenting.
