Shut Up and Dance or
"Greensleeves", In Its Way,
Was Once a Pop Song
by Gary Hardaway
Judgment is libidinal.
The passion to disparage
overwhelms whatever restraint you feel
in a fit of dismissal.
The catchy tune and cloying lyrics
nonetheless etch their patterns
there where more substantial music
lives. The pop song you
will never have facility to capture
plays on, awaiting a kinder ear.
Mozart was once pop. Just a thought.*
And there was Lisztomania, too.
Paganini also packed 'em in.
The most irritating ear worms are the jingles from commercials.
*
That they pierce us demonstrates their sometimes perverse artfulness.
Cellphone ringtones are the new earworm breeders (I just heard one I truly hate). *
I'm still working through "Judgment is libidinal." Great first line.*
Thanks, Gary.
"The passion to disparage
overwhelms whatever restraint you feel "
Nice!
What Gary said about that first line. *
Thanks, Bill and John.
