Gulf War
Someone's ass should be kicked.
But as we've learned, the body
Corporate has so many asses,
whole nations would be depleted
finding and kicking each deserving cheek.
“It's only business” spills from mouths
well trained in the art of dissembling.
“It's nothing personal, of course,
Louisiana, Alabama, Florida.
But it's your own thirst that does you in.
You demand this sticky toast
to economic health and we deliver.”
Barrels and barrels pouring down
our throats, a black communion, sans Host.

Very strong, very clear. -- * Q
Great poem. Very skillful in delivering a message without sounding preachy. Oh and I love to kick corporate asses. I have a nun's paddle just waiting.
Fave.
Powerful poem. Thanks for making me angry.
An amazing piece, Gary. Great voice. What a closing. I like it.
Yes. yes, yes, yes.
"a black communion"....yes *
Pour it on, Gary. Good for you. Fav.
Thanks for all the nice comments. I am enjoying Fictionaut despite not yet knowing all the secret handshakes of the software.
"a black communion"
Chilling, beautiful line...
Strong voice, and after my heart. *
Thanks, Beate, for reading this,
I realize I'm a bit late to the table in reading this, but great piece - powerful, angry, but tight and channeled. I have a few poems of my own from that time frame that share similar sentiments. *
Never too late for an encouaging response- thanks, Michael, for reading this.
Powerful, infuriating, effective. The Gulf War has destroyed so many young lives and young families on both sides. And now Afghanistan -- totally hopeless. Obama has just continued the militaristic status quo for all his talk.
