“What are you doing?”
Ripped pages littered the floor. “I'm making a dress,” she said, feeding the pages through the sewing machine.
He didn't know how to answer. “Are those my books?”
She shut off the machine, lifted her head and smiled. “Now I can wear your words.”
After she put it on, he read to her while she turned.

This story was recently published in Issue #5 of Vine Leaves Literary Journal.
It was inspired by the song "Were We To Dance" by k., itself a cover of an old, obscure flashpapr song. Although I am somewhat of a romantic, most of my work is decidedly melancholy and dark. For once, I wanted to show what was beneath my cynical veneer.
