Why do you write?

A certain word in a book and a certain line in a book will make me want to write. Words on the walls in bathrooms or words in a cookbook start it, too. But I can't pinpoint it, though, because some of my poems and short stories just come out of nowhere.

Sometimes things my parents say will get me writing.

I write because I can't help it.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Favorite authors: Fyodor Dostoevsky and Colette and Thomas Hardy and Katherine Mansfield and too many to list.

My favorite books: The Idiot & Jude the Obscure

Poets I dig: Michelle McEwen, Paul Siegell, Lyn Lifshin, Louise Glück, Marilyn E. Johnston, and Rosie King.

Poetry books I dig: Dangerous Life by Lucia Maria Perillo, Jambandbootleg by Paul Siegell, Poemergency by Paul Siegell, and Silk Fist Songs by Marilyn E. Johnston. There are others I like. I just can't think of them right now.
