  • About Me

    Darlin' Neal's story collection, Rattlesnakes and the Moon, was published March 2010 from Press 53. She is assistant professor of creative writing in the University of Central Florida's MFA program.

    She was born in Jackson, Mississippi and spent her childhood traveling New Mexico. She attended New Mexico State University, the University of Arizona, where she received an MFA in 1993, and The University of Southern Mississippi where she received a PhD in 2001. Her work has appeared in The Southern Review, Puerto del Sol, Shenandoah, Per Contra, and dozens of other magazines, as well as in anthologies such as The Best of The Web and Online Writing: The Best of the First Ten Years. She is the recipient of a Literary Arts Fellowship from The Mississippi Arts Commission, a Henfield Transatlantic Review Award, New Mexico State's Frank Water's Fiction Fellowship and numerous other awards. In the last three years, her work has been nominated eight times for the Pushcart Prize.
