by Steven Gowin
Roy Carver owned a big tire retreading outfit over on the Mississippi.
The quintessential collegiate donor, he agreed to build a spiffy new field house for the basketball team. The U would call it, "Carver Arena."
The newspaper with headline, "Carver Donates Millions to UI," was tacked to the Workshop bulletin board. Under it, somebody penciled in with Sharpie, "Atta Boy, Ray."
Happy belated birthday, Mr. Carver.

Too bad in real life, Roy hates Ray.*
A good description of reality, it is as it is.
Subversive. I like it.
I always wondered where Ray got his millions.
Good piece, Steven. Enjoyed.
