Sunday Morning Series- 6: I Love You, Man, but Hate Your God
by Gary Hardaway
Your God's a narcissist-
petulant, capricious, and perverse.
Were He real outside your mind,
I wouldn't fear but only loathe Him
despite the certainty of hell, etcetera.
But if He makes you happy, stands
as bulwark against the vast, indifferent
and deadly universe, then cling to Him
as, all around, surging waters wash away
what life for you on earth depends upon,
and be glad. We'll mourn
and bury what remains.
Wooo! Tour de force. Clash of titanic conceits. *
Thank you, Mathew.
The energy the poem radiates is thick and rich. It makes coping seem like our best option regarding the cruelties of the world. But then, the "love" in the title takes on the form of a plan, a direction we should all follow to thwart "indifference" and "deadliness." Bravo.
Thank you, Trevor.
Karma dharma brutal. *
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him..." Genesis 1:27
No hiding place there. Whether God created us, or we him, we'd be better off looking inside for whatever it is that went wrong.
Good to see the anger channeled like this. Good to see the point lifted.
Thank you, James. God, as we know It, is such a rudimentary cultural construct. Surely we could do better work now if we tried.
I am sad there's only one left.
Thank you, Frankie.
Enjoying the series, Gary. *
Thank you, Sam.
Good series, Gary. I like the force in this one.*
Thank you, John.
You've left no place to hide.*
Thanks for reading, Gary.
The clarity of this is extraordinary, Gary, and the indifferent universe so undefiable. *
Thank you, Quirina.
God, you're really good at hating God. Your even better than me. I never read anyone who hates God better than you, Deity Baiter.
