Lost among the Riff-raff
by Gary Hardaway
Poor, pocked Ceres- dwarf planet
trapped among mere asteroids-
devoid of its own distinct orbital path,
like the real planets, though endowed
with great, bright, mysterious spots
that have astronomers pondering and pondering
until Dawn breaks with new news
the mainstream media will find
far too esoteric to obsess about
for numerous news cycles.
If Ceres were a plane lost
or some grisly, isolated, terrorist event
in Prague, perhaps, or Brussels
its press would be much better
I would have included the word FAKE in the terrorist event line.

Woe is us. *
But Ceres has one of your lovely poems, now.*
This hits deeper than mere planetary talk *
Poor Ceres. At least he/she has warm pools of water washing the ice and rock above.*

Perfect use of press in that last line. I'll take poetry over news any day.*
Thanks, Emily.
This is strange and insightful and wonderful.
