Fractional
by Gary Hardaway
Between zero and one
fall values of infinite number
never greater than one
nor less than zero
proving the mind capable
of infinitesimal distinctions
though it likes them
integral and easy—
nothing or something, off or on,
no or yes, black or white.
Fine gradations of the fractional
fissure the eggshell whole we crave
and render the smooth
ragged and complex.
I love the contrast between black and white and infinitesimal distinctions. I happen to be working on a very different number piece too. Fave*
...and I've been playing with egg- and other shells. This piece makes me grin--I love how you've traced a line in such familiar sands.
You appeal to my inner science geek.

it's a pity that the phrase 'shades of grey' has been degraded by the mediocre:)
nice idea - well executed :D
A perfect moment in this fine piece -
"Fine gradations of the fractional
fissure the eggshell whole we crave"
Good poem, Gary. I like. *

"and render smooth

Love that.
Couldn't stop thinking of dialectics here:
"nothing or something, off or on/no or yes, black or white."
Interesting read.
