Summertime
by Estelle Bruno
"And the livin is easy"
Says who?
I am so happy to see winter almost gone
But then, I look at the garden
Ouch! such a mess, so
then I must order the seeds,
dig up the dead flower beds,
rake up the leaves I didn't get to do
in the fall.
Spring begins March 20
lovely spring
But then, I remember I have to
plant the seeds
plant the flowers
hmm
Maybe winter isn't so bad, after all.
Good opening. Also -
"plant the seeds
plant the flowers
hmm"
Nice poem.
Love the 'hmmm' and 'says who?' that set the voice and attitude.
glad you liked this Sam. Nice to hear from you.
Lucinda, you sure got my attitude correct. Thanks for the fav.
The simplicity of this poem struck me. As if the poet is one with the garden. Lovely.

hahahaha!! I love it, Estelle!!! Winter does look much better when you think of all the work involved in a beautiful garden. That's why I have cacti and weeds.

Enjoyed this, Estelle. Love the opening lines particularly. The "Says who?" is a great touch.
