About Me

971 MENU is a purely online not-for-profit venture. We publish whenever we have enough work to justify an issue. That means five pieces. The minimum time between issues is thirty days, and attempts are made to coincide with the first of the month. We publish fiction and nonfiction of any length and sometimes accidentally other stuff.

971 MENU began in September 2006 as a publisher of fiction under 1000 words. We are pleased with our work, and we are quite pleased with the high-quality work we have been fortunate enough to publish, but we no longer limit ourselves in terms of length. However, your chance of seeing a thirty-page epic here is fairly slim. We still put out the short stuff, and some that's a little bit longer.

A word about Flash Fiction: Lots of people become overstimulated by terminology, which harms the work. We try not to do that. We try to provide well-crafted objects that aren't too full of themselves.

Hey yersef.

Revving my engines; glad you're around.

Elizabeth Hegwood – Sep 26, 2009

Oh, I skipped over all those other comments. Your doubt does not surprise me. Smiley face. Very nice piece in Smokelong. Lovely.

Elizabeth Hegwood – Sep 26, 2009

Hi Gregor.

Post a story dammit.

David Erlewine – Mar 19, 2009

What Alan said abour your SLQ story/interview. Great stuff. Ha, yes, b/c of my kids I age like a mutt.

Alan Rossi – Mar 18, 2009

i like that story a lot, greg. the interview is fun, too. i'm glad to see you in smokelong.

you won't post unpublished things? i think a lot of people post published things here, from what i've read. actually, i feel strange about that. i have a thing up at elimae (i copied you) and i want to post it here, but i figure i should wait till it's archived. i don't know. i feel strange about that part.

Hey Alan--I have a new one at SmokeLong:

I don't think I'll be posting anything unpublished. I just don't care for the idea that much. But I may change my mind.

NineSevenOne MENU – Mar 18, 2009

Hi David--we were happy to have them.

Fatherhood--yeah sometimes. I told my wife the day after the baby was born that it was going to make me old. That's happening.

Alan Rossi – Mar 18, 2009

greg, where are your stories? i want to read one if you have one.

David Erlewine – Mar 18, 2009

Hi Greg! Thanks for running my stories. Very happy to be part of 971 Menu. How is fatherhood? Still kicking your ass like it is mine?

Alan Rossi – Mar 13, 2009
