About Me

I'm the recipient of a 2010 Individual Artist Fellowship in Lit. Arts from the Tennessee Arts Commission. My short fiction has appeared in The Missouri Review, Tampa Review, and in Ecotone: Reimagining Place. I'm currently finishing up a first novel, and I live and work in my native Memphis, where I live with my wife and son and daughter.

Why do you write?

"I don't want to write for aesthetes; I am interested in cash."--Barry Hannah

Real reason is, it's the only thing I can see myself doing for the long haul.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Walker Percy, Kent Haruf, Peter Taylor, Andre Dubus, Larry Brown, Cormac McCarthy, Flannery O'Connor, Richard Ford, Rick Bass, Tim O'Brien, Wallace Stegner

Recently read/currently reading and liking a lot: Kevin Wilson, Jim Harrison, Margaret Atwood, Dan Chaon

Big books for me: The Moviegoer, All the King's Men, Plainsong, All the Pretty Horses, On Fire
