I think the founder Jurgen would like it to be an alternative model for publishing where folks would come to fictionaut specifically to read the recommended (as in most "favorited") stories... I have mixed feelings abt this, because I worry it could inadvertently promote clanishness or clique-ishness or become lowest-common-denominator editing. ...the site is very much still-evolving, can kind-of be anything you want it to be.
