Once there was a man who wrote in code. He was comfortable among substitutions. He never spoke about work. He never spoke about other-than-work. One day he was killed. He was stuffed into a duffel bag and left in a bathtub. Some weeks later he was found by mistake. Soon a story surfaced about a man who thought in code. It said he was comfortable among substitutions. He never spoke to anyone about work. He never spoke to anyone about other-than-work. One day he was killed. His body was stuffed into a duffel bag and left in a bathtub. Some weeks later he was found by mistake. Once there was a man who worked in code. He was comfortable among substitutions. excellent
this makes me laugh. thanks for the idea of extending the piece, matt...
what, you mean you think this is a joke?
i wrote a much longer piece with a similar idea but thought it was too serious to post
Yes to this.
Even an infinite series needs an end. See Poetic Closure by Barbara Herrnstein Smith--great book! Taught me a lot about endings.
thanks for the comments.
eamon: the piece makes me laugh because making the series much longer than it initially was works better and differently than i expected it to.
bill: i've gone back and forth about the ending and decided that if it's optimally a performance piece done as a round then it's kinda good that it end the way it does. a single voice comfortable among substitutions.
